First problem - 10 days from new

Featured Replies

My VRS has encountered it's first issue. This morning I noticed a dozen small spots on my drive. Opening the bonnet has revealed a small pink coolant leak which appears to originate from the base of the radiator. Coolant level is slightly below minimun, and the number of spots indicates the leak has been there for some days (probably since new). The Skoda Assist (RAC) man is on his way, and will hopefully resolve the problem outside my house.

I know this is nothing major, but disappointed that the first fault appeared so soon. My previous BMW never required the help of Roadside Assistance, and neither has my wife's 6 year old Renault. Teething problems.....

The RAC man says that it is the radiator which is leaking and that all hoses are fine. He thinks adding some gunk would almost certainly seal it, but  recommends taking it back to the dealers for further investigation and possible radiator replacement. He was reluctant to add gunk on a brand new car because it may mask a manufacturing defect which could worsen later. There are exactly 14 spots on my dirve and I use the car once or twice per day, so could be an issue not spotted at PDI. The leak is very very small.

The car is booked in for next week and the dealer will pre-order a new rad incase it is needed.

Frustrating on such a new car but at least your dealer seems understanding by pre-ordering the radiator.

Seem to remember a thread on here, from a mk3 vRS owner, having his car picked up on a breakdown truck- with a coolant leak all over the engine bay in the first few days.

Don't add anything to the coolant, a new radiator will be fitted under warranty.

Mmmh wonder if there will be more of this with the rush to build vRS..

I doubt it's anything to do with any "rushes", for one it takes as long as it takes to build a car and secondly it's very unlikely there are vRS specific radiators....

I completely agree. It sounds like they're planning to replace the radiator for the OP.  A bit frustrating but it does happen and how the dealer reacts is the important thing.

Isn't Gunk engine de-greaser?
