Would be keen to hear if anyone has them fitted and what their thoughts are on them please?

I'm tempted to be honest as not a bad mod for £40,...

Ordered and fitted on Carnival Sunday... totally happy... as I've got only one usable hand/armthe simple task of reffilling the washer fluid was pretty hard... fortunately I'm 1.96m tall and with the help of my head  I could manage to keep the bonnet open until I could use the securing safety rod and finaly being free to service the car properly but my neck and fingers mostly appreciate the  shocks mod

(Sorry for my English)

No issues with mine even if I do appear to have installed them upside down haha! Love them would def recommend however you need to get additional washers as none supplied and the ones you remove are a whole unit. Also it requires two different sized washers not four of the same size :)

According to SuperSkoda install instructions the wider half of the structs should be mounted closer to the windshield but I don't see any problem in having them mounted upside down (like yours)... About the washers mine came with a complete set  of correct washers only doubt is if all the joint ball bolts and washers are rust-proof... only time will tell.

Mine didnt have any instructions haha. Oh I wonder if maybe they decided to include washers after I left feedback about how it would be useful if they came with it seeing as they only cost pence. Thats good if thats the case :D Oh and I slapped some touch up paint over mine to hopefully help prevent rusting

LadyV, since you're the first to buy these, how do you rate them so far?

I would guess that she loves them and would definitely recommend them.

Just a shame that Skoda cut a corner and didnt fit these as standard.

Dodgy is correct with his quote of me lol. No probs, easy to fit, much nicer than the original prop stick lol

But what about those of us who definitely dont want them?

Perhaps they should be a free option?

A cost option would probably be better, otherwise you're technically paying for something that you don't want.

I was just trying to be nice to those that want them

Does the use per week per month justify the investment  in cost ,time and functionality.

Sorry but I'm an engineer, by qualification and spent many years justifying my self  and company expenditure.

Or are they just nice to have?(toy)

Lol for me I use a lot of screen wash cos I cannot stand a dirty windscreen and constantly using the washers lol. So consequently I guess I open it fairly regularly. I'm sure there are those on here much more technical than me who tinker under the bonnet so would also prob prefer them. But if you never really open it, would be a bit pointless IMO

Do you still close the bonnet by letting it drop from a small distance or do you have to push it down now?

Edited by TudorM

No it will still close from a small height by being dropped as per normal

Spare a thought for those of us with the active bonnet which is the reason why the struts weren't fitted in the first place, but when they decided to save a few Koruna by omitting the active bonnet, they chose not to splash out on the struts which were standard on my old Superb.

Thank god they never splashed out on the struts. I'll have mine as it is thanks!

I have this on my Octavia 2 since 2-3 years back...

They are not rust proof (at least not the one that I have :( ) and the bonnet doesn't go as high as with the factory fitted support ( the guys that are servicing my car always curse the damn thing for keeping the bonnet a bit to low and making them hit their heads :))) ).

First time, I bought 2 of them and have them installed on both sides... but after a while I decided to remove one for making the bonnet to hard to close; plus, when I was opening the bonnet I had to hold it because it would've open like it was spring loaded :))).

I hope this helps :)

The bonnet prop is a much nicer arrangement than what was on the MK2; thought something was going to break of it each and every time I propped the bonnet up on the old car; v poorly designed.

Gas struts probably weigh more and they can more likely fail than just a basic piece of metal. Is a bit skinflint I suppose not having them on a 20-odd grand car but nothing wrong with the basic prop.

I still can't believe that the tight wads haven't included these on the Mk3. Next someone's going to tell me that the bonnet release catch is on the left hand side of UK cars too...

I find this very annoying. Plus the fuse box being behind the glove box. Old octy wasn't like this and think it's a shame they have designed them like this
