Changing the digital kmh speed display to the odometer

Featured Replies

I have no interest in my speed in kmh and have tried to change it to the odometer as the handbook tells you to with no success, what am I doing wrong?

if you do a search here you will find that Gizmo68 has put up some step by step instructions on how to do this, provided the maxidot has been coded to do this.

I think it has to be done via VCDS as it needs to be set on Australia as the country of use.

The dealers probably won't do it so you'll have to find a member with VCDS near you and get them to set it for you.

The dealer cannot do it, their VAS diagnostic tool will not allow them to alter the country code, since modifying it breaches the type approval for the car in the UK. The country code can only be modified using VCDS.

To the OP,  We in the UK cannot have the option to disable KMH display, the EU say that our cars must have a full time display of both KMH and MPH. Since the Speedo only shows MPH, the maxidot is used to display the speed in KMH. Unless the country code is altered by VCDS to another non EU country that uses UK measurements then you're stuck with the KMH display.

If you do not have Maxidot then you are forever stuck with KMH.

My Octavia only shows MPH via the Speedo and a Large Digital display in the maxi dot but can be put back to KPH in seconds via the Maxi dot

Only showing MPH is not an MOT failure providing the car is capable of displaying KPH

Bugger. Ok thanks everyone.

Miller73: Hi. I wanted to change it initally too, but have now become quite fond of having a dual display. In a sense it gives me a lot more "finetuning" of the speed when cruising, I can differentiate between 90 and 95 kmh as opposed to working out on which side of the white line is my speed indicator...., especially when trying out differnt speeds to mpg or drive fatigue.
