Best fuel economy for the 1.8tsi Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi to all 1.8tsi Yeti owners,

Out of pure curiosity I would like to know what fuel economy your 1.8tsi Yeti returning. The reply can be mpg or kpl. Now I know, just as you know that there are many variables, which is not what the question is about. The question is what is your best fuel returns for a "steady drive" of some distance? A drive when you are trying to gain good economy. Let's suggest 100 miles or more.

Thanks,

Banjobach

The 1.8 TSI is my favourite Skoda engine as it makes the vehicle quick and warms up quickly too compared to the wiesels.

The Yeti is of course an aerodynamic compromise and hence you do well to do much better than 35 mpg (UK gallons) in combined driving including the warm up period that the tests do not report on.  Over 40 mpg is possible in relaxed criusing mode.  With this engine in the Mark 2 Octavia I could get over 40 mpg average and over 50 mpg when crusiing as mine was matched to the 7 speed DSG.

The new 1.8 TSI ie 180 hp unit, is much better but we are not seeing it yet in the UK but hopefully we may get it in  the L&K Octavia Mk 3 rather than the just the wiesel version.  1.4 TSI like in the Fabia VRS would be interesting too if you can get 98 Octane plus fuel.

My best mpg figures are almost always seen on my long euro tours in the car, usually getting between 40-50mpg at no more than 65mph. The first few trips I did when the car was standard gained me around 38mpg as a max, then around 42 with the Shark stage 1 software in place. Since they've done the stage 2 KO4 turbo conversion that'll happily head above mid 40's now. I've got trip mpg average figures/photos in my previous trip threads but this was achieved at a steady 65mph but with over 250kg of camping kit on board. :)

Best i could manage was 35mpg on a trip back from Warrington.

Normally sits about 30-31 given that my commute in the morning is 5 mins town driving, 5 mins A road, 15 mins motorway, 5 mins A road and 5 mins town - not the best for economy.

Hence the reason I am changing to the 140CR - better fuel economy and it should work out only about £30 dearer a month to run a brand new one than the '59 plate I currently have.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I know my 1.8tsi will warm up a bit quicker that those in cooler climates, but as stock standard and driving steadily I'm able to achieve 41mpg over a reasonable distance, that is more than 100miles. I am pleased with this fuel usage return, but just wondered what others where achieving, to give me some sort of comparison.

I have not tested on a steady drive as described, but the best I have achieved between fill-ups is 8.2L/100km or 34.5 mpg.  The worst between fill-ups has been 14.3L/100km or 19.7 mpg.  This is probably not surprising as my daily commute to work is approximately 3 minutes or 1.1km, which does not do the fuel economy (or the engine) any good

WALK

Have to agree. Just walk.

My best result was 8.18L/100km over two journeys of some 1500 km each (each time I got exactly 8.18L/100km). Based on the readings from pumps of course.

Good point.  The only problem is that as a work car it needs to be available for work related use, so I cannot leave it at home, nor can I leave it at the office as there is no secure overnight parking.

I do question at times whether I really need a work provided car, but unlimited private use, a fuel card and a new car every 80,000 km is a privilege I am reluctant to give up.

Best average recently was on a trip down to the New Forrest when I made a big effort to keep within speed limits ( tricky when the engines so willing) 36.6 mpg. Worst 20.5 in London traffic 12 miles and it wasn't even rush hour ! Typically between fills I'm getting 28-30. Now new tyres are run in I shall be looking closely for any change, hopefully in a positive way.

Best (if irresponsible) is the instant read out - on a local hill when Yeti was heavily loaded I got it down to 8.3 mpg for about 200 meters under heavy acceleration. :giggle:

I have just driven about 1800 kilometers with average consumption of 9.34L/100km, carrying this load:

Average speed was 86km/h according to GPS (110-130km/h on the motorways).

I make that about 30.4 MPG briskycat.

I filled mine up today and got 29.2 MPG (it does go well though.)

30.24 MPG to be precise :)

We've just returned from a 1500 mile jaunt up to and around the Cairngorms.

4 fill ups returned 31.7 / 33.7/ 35.6/ 31.8 MPG brim to brim.

The  first and last included a lot of motorway/dual carriageway speeds, driving up to and back from Scotland.

The 1.8 tsi is a delight to drive and surprisingly flexible.
