Steering Angle Sensor

Recommended Posts

Simple question, really.

Anyone able say exactly where this item is located?

There appears to be so many different descriptions to the "slip ring" and the "steering controller" (which sits beneath it). I'm guessing it's either one of the two, but which one?

Cheers

Steering angle sensor adaptation failure.

Basic Setting Sensor for Steering Angle (G85)

Prerequisites:

  • Start the vehicle.
  • Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.
  • Drive in a short distance straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.
  • If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight.
  • Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again.
  • Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition.
  • System voltage at least 12.0 V.

The above procedure is completely ineffective, after a cluster swap.

you need to do basic settings with vcds

After a successful basic setting, field 2 should say "OK".

Tried this literally dozens of times over the course of nearly 2 months now. Simply doesn't work, in my case.

I'm starting to think there must be some bad coding in there, somewhere. Otherwise it would have adapted long ago.

put your original cluster back in and try the basic settings again to see if it is due to the cluster

Tried that on several previous occasions, too.

Which leads me to believe the fault/rogue coding lies elsewhere in the car.

Yes, of course.

To cut a (very) long story short - purely bad coding.

It was coded with the assumption the sensor was behind the steering wheel, when in reality it was actually in the rack.

Seems i have a very late pre-fl fitted with fl parts under the skin, just to make life difficult.  :wall:

It would have never of adapted in a million years with the coding it had.

Now, sensor has finally adapted, all other faults have cleared.

Very time consuming and expensive lessoned learned.

I can't speak for the fl controllers (no idea) but I definitely have the standard pre-fl VRS interior.

Well, there's something new I learned today.

I'm having trouble just now with my Octavia VRS.

I'm trying to follow the instructions above to reset the steering angle but I can't access bank 03 it's saying can't access the controller.

Is there another way to get in.

Hi I have same problem with g85 and late model of skoda with g85 on the rack and after of coding the abs pump in dealership they have given me back car like that with esp and tpms on the dash and they have say this is nothing to do with them because this is not part of abs pump coding but I'm the stupid one to not know the abs is not responsible for esp so ended in argument and I have pay the bill and I'm trying to sort out the problem on my own and it's wrong coding for this car so it's not see the steering angle sensor

I got the same error. I tried this way but nothing got fixed. Sadly, the steering limit stop needs to be adapted too.

My ABS is ESP EC1

any luck?
