Hi folks

I used to love searching for a new car - the colour, the spec, the deal etc etc but although i also enjoyed searching for these 2, i have had my fill for a while.  I can't recall just how many times we changed our minds.  In the end however, we are very happy with the result.

We got -

A new Octavia 150bhp Elegance Combi manual in Race blue, with spare wheel and dealer fit sill plates.

And.....

A new Superb 170bhp Elegance Twin Door manual in silver.

We've come from a 12 plate Toyota Auris (fill in contract hire car which was written off by an 8 wheel tipper) and a Saab 9-5 Vector Sport Diesel Auto with 185 Mapped bhp.

My wife has always liked the Octavia, even as far back as the Mk1 but always preferred the estate whilst i have always liked the Superb and can now be seen in public since they have redesigned the rear to be very handsome rather than looking like an ugly duckling with a bag of chips thrust in its ass.

We drove an Octavia 3 SE Combi 2.0 150 a few weeks back and were blown away by the sheer grunt of it - something i can't say for our own one?  - needing a few miles under its belt presumably (and hopefully!).

Other than that and a fidgety ride, it is one very well sorted car.  Fantastic tech, space, comfy seating, handy (sorry....simply clever) features and an all in perfect family car.  Now that i'm running the Superb myself however, i feel that the Superb is a leap ahead of the Octy 3 in terms of cabin quality (this should not however reflect badly on the Octy) it's just that the Superb is built like the very VERY best.

Tech is much more intuitive on the Octy with a quicker to react screen and pure smart phone esq finger scrolling and instant reaction to your finger. Prefer the stalks too.

Steering is nice and weighty with Sport mode and feels a bit more chuckable than the superb although the Superb is brilliant for such a big car.

Looks wise - i think the Superb has it here.  Muscular, vast, nice wheels and the dash is arguably more pleasant to be behind.  The doors look a bit old hat in the Superb though.

We toyed with leather in the Octy too but feel that the half and half is nicely sophisticated and feels good too.

All in, we're both very pleased.  The Superb has just turned 1000 miles and i'm looking at DTUK for a bit more go although to be frank, it's just for pleasure, not through need.  Same goes for the Octavia.

I have asked my dealer regarding a number of Skoda genuine accesories and await a repsonse.........

I'll update on how i get on with them both over the coming months and especially after our week up in Orkney in may as the Superb will be on full family duties then but in the meantime, here are a few pics from after washing them both yesterday -

Cheers, Dave

Nice! :)

But isn't that superb a mkII face lift? Didn't think there was a mkIII yet?

Yeah, you're right but in my eyes it's so vastly different, it's a 3.

I had a MkII Superb pre-facelift before the OctyIII and I agree with you about the build quality, the Superb still has the edge even though the basic architecture dates back to 2008. Main reason I opted for the Octy was due to the FL Superb II not really moving the game on in the interior, especially the media technology, but I'll be at the front of the queue when the actual Superb MkIII makes its debut if the concept pics are anything to go by it will be awesome!
