Yeti Insurance

Featured Replies

I've contacted my insurance company to get an idea on how much extra its going to cost me on a new 2.0 Diesel Yeti over a 10 yr old 1.9 Diesel Touran. Looks like an extra £12 a year on my fully comprehensive policy.

That means only £186 a year, no compulsory or voluntary excess on accidental damage, £25 on windscreen repair, £75 on windcreen replacement, £75 fire & theft, guaranteed courtesy car, 180 days european cover, protected no claims etc.

Is it really worth phoning around?

What do you want...blood ...seems a very good deal to me...Who are you with?

Tesco. Also I'm 52 and a teacher, wife is 53 and works in Waitrose on the Post Office counter. Parked off street, I've paid for protected no-claims since I was 21, I think. Liverpool Victoria, More Than and Caravan Club have also been very competative in the past. All chosen beacuse offer full cover when abroad in mainland Europe.

We also use them on a VW Up in my wifes name, who our 24 yr old son is on, and 20yr old university son is about to go on.

At last, I've found one good thing about getting old!

Sorry, but trying to compare insurance quotes is about like comparing brie with Stilton! There are far, far too many variables.

Post code.

Occupation.

Age.

Other drivers.

History.

just for start

The quotes i got from LV were lower, but then I might be less of a tearaway than yourself

And I thought my £202 LV quote was good

If you are having a new car it might be worth considering NFU ,they won't be cheaper than your present quote but some of the benefits are unbeatable.

If you write your car off you are guaranteed a brand new model thus doing away with the need for GAP insurance.(this is available till your car is two years old)

No charge for any alterations in the term of your policy.

No charge or need to inform of a change to winter wheels/rubber provided standard

Unlimited European cover

Ample legal and liability cover

And many more excellent benefits

I considered it was well worth paying a bit extra for.

"Hastings" the lowest quote I had came in at £161 but was very basic.

NFU came out the best insurer in "Which" magazine

I was with RAC Insurance until earlier this evening. Reasonable price and seemed to be a reasonable service.

Then at the weekend, I noticed that at the top of the certificate that I'd printed off (having taken out the policy for TIBET III a couple of weeks ago), that the Yeti was described as a '2014 Skoda Yeti Se Plus 4x4 Tdi (170) 1968cc Estate'.

The policy had been taken out 'manually', actually talking to the company as their website didn't recognise the registration number - probably as it had been placed on retention prior to going on the new Yeti.

I rang RAC Insurance to get it corrected to an 'L&K' to be told that their would be a £25 admin charge to change. I tried to explain that the mistake had to be theirs as the 'Se Plus' is not an available trim level in 2014. Although they accepted that it didn't appear on their drop down list either, still a charge would be made.

I asked to be put through to a supervisor and after 5 minutes on hold, rang off and rang back. Same process but this time told my car wasn't insured as the certificate was incorrect and that I would also be charged an additional £15.38 to upgrade the policy to an 'L&K'. Managed to get through to a supervisor who said he'd listened to the tape of my original call when taking out the policy and said I'd said 'yes' to it being an Se Plus - but he admitted I had also mentioned 'L&K'.

Given I've had two Elegances and now an L&K, I know I did not say that the new one was an 'Se Plus'. Could I listen to the tape, I asked? £10 fee for that I was told and the supervisor moved quickly on asking what I wanted....

Agreement was made to waive the £25 admin fee and the previous £25 fee when I changed cars but I still had to pay the £15.38 'upgrade'.

I'm pretty good at checking through paperwork for correct facts (do it a lot at work) but this had escaped me initially. The worry is being told that although it wasn't my mistake, the Yeti was potentially uninsured.

I then asked about 'green card' cover to transit Bosnia (20km whilst driving through Croatia) on a planned road trip. They rang back today and said, sorry, no cover for that but they'd waive the policy cancellation fee. I got the hint at that point!

Tonight went to Skoda Insurance (Allianz) and took out a well-priced policy with them. Sorted. Felt like dealing with grown ups.

Moral? Check the small print.....

Down here odd things happen with car insurance quotes, like its much cheaper to insure a new car than, say, a 4 year old one when you hunt around.

Their 'risk' is greater but premium is lower.

As the yanks would say, go figure.

  • 2 weeks later...

Try Aviva - I was staggered when they came up with £190 fully comp, protected bonus (on line), against the cheapest "big name" insurer who quoted £260, and Skoda quoting £295.

59 year old & wife, max 10,000 miles pa, no commuting, living near Manchester - which is normally a fairly expensive area for insurance (compared with mid wales!).

Also, Skoda Ensurance offered to renew their cover free for another 2 years at the end of year 1.  I'm happy!
