Nissan gtr!

Featured Replies

Ill stick to bikes though. Not just because i cant afford to buy or run a gtr, but because they are still stupidly fast and you can pick up a decent fast bike for much more realised prices in relation to my bank balance.

I do like being out in the open on a bike to though, cant beat it :).

Yes I do like the idea of a fast bike.

I have a mate that is very into them but I've never done it because I tend to "press on and test the limits a bit" and I'm too scared I'd be brown bread within six months.

Which isn't ideal with a wife and two young children.

He's been knocked off three times in the last two years.  But that's probably a subject for a different thread...

Be a damn side cheaper though. :D

Oh and I'm actually the Eastern rep (Essex etc...) for the GTR Owners Club.

Get your mate on gtr.co.uk as there are some great events and meets.

We are doing the full Silverstone GP circuit late in May which I am particularly looking forward to.

Should be over 10 GT-Rs attending including some good people for driving tips.

  • Bossfox will be along soon.  I believe he had a 2012 one up to about a few months ago, then got a classic 22 odd year old one, and now has a brand spanker MY2014 GTR just delivered

  • I had a day at silverstone last year in boss fox's gtr. Man that was an impressive car the speed was epic!

  • If we are just talking about 0-60's then the GTR & many other quick cars do not require much skill at all to race through the gears. All automatic.Mine can get to 60 in just over 4 secs, and just

Yup. Same reason my GTR mate hasnt got one. He likes the idea too, just knows its a bad idea hahs.

You soon realise on a bike though, when your exposed to the elements, n fresh air in your face, nothing around you, you know its gonna hurt if you come off. Just gotta ride accordingly.

Slow in fast out n all that.

Yeah. Gotta watch the other drivers huh. Theyre a pain in the bum.

Oh really! Thats cool :). Hes probably seen you on the GTR forum then.

I'm not sure what his username is unfortunately

We had a joiner in who raced bikes, in Ireland mostly. He had a tricked out R1 for the road. Said he was selling it because when he took it out the front wheel didn't touch the ground much and riding bikes on public roads was just too dangerous. Modern bikes are too good for public roads/ too easy to go too fast. Most of the guy I know who are very good bikers and very fast bikers have moved onto other slower bikes that are more fun at lower speeds. Motocross KTMs etc.

I guess modern sports cars are probably the same. All too easy until you're going silly fast.

Thats exactly what i did, got rid of my R1 and bought a 400cc supermoto.

In that time i bought and sold a zx7r cos it just wasn't as fun.

Most fun I've had on two wheel's by a long way.

I've never had a really quick bike - 100bhp and 600cc was my fastest. That was enough to beat 95% of the cars on the road in a straight line drag to 100mph but I know I'd have been left behind on twisty roads by a committed driver in a good hot hatch. The bike may have been capable of more but I was all too aware of my lack of racing talent so never wanted to take too many risks.

I bought a Vespa GTS 300 a few years back and I find I can have just as much fun on that as I can absolutely wring it's neck and only end up at 85mph so won't get myself into too much trouble.

Yeah. They are too fast for the road really.

Thats why SV650s are popular. Only 70hp but its power is all over the rev range, not just at the top, thanks to the v twin. Still keep up with most things on the road until 100mph plus. I try not to go that fast anyway, cos i value my licence haha.

Not stupid fast, but fast enough to really have fun on the road, especially in the corners as theyre so agile.

I love mine. But i do fancy something faster too hahs. Just something to scare me abit. Haha

Most fun I actually ever had on bikes was on a couple of loaned 125s. They topped out at about 65mph so we couldn't really speed even if we tried. Me amd my mates spent a day wizzing around on them being delinquents 'racing' each other up and down a 70mph then road pulling up to hot hatches and revving the mighty single cylinder. Couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but it was a hoot.

Yeah. I loved my little cg125 i had when i was learnin. Could really find the limits of it on the car and fiddle. Suspension at its limits round the corners, was brilliant.

I raced an Octavia 1.9tdi across there once. The guy couldnt believe i was keepin up. He came over to me at McDonald's afterwards n said how impressed he was haha.

Slow in a straight line, only 11bhp, but a bundle of laughs in the corners.

I have much more fun in my 150bhp Scimitar than any other car I've driven - low weight, proper (non PAS) steering, a throttle that doesn't use electric wires, a mega exhaust noise and being able to slide it at 30mph is much more fun that going quickly :D

  • Author

Much less likely to end up in a coffin too if you crash at 30 haha.

As the saying goes, its much more fun to drive a slow car quick than a fast car slow. :)

Must admit....

Last years track day I managed to drive a gtr and it was faster in every corner than anything else on the day

More poised than a 458 too

Haven't a driveway wide enough for one though

:(

Will have to move house. Lol

  • Author

They are wide. It made my neighbours Hilux look narrow.

Its atleast a foot or so wider than that. N they arent exactly small cars haha

Gixxr thou and the GTR would be interesting.

  • Author

There you go mate haha.

  • Author

Im not sure how accurate that is though. I cant see the description on my ipad so i cant see if the GTR is standard or stage 1, 2 or whatever.

The gsxr soon left the r1. I wouldnt have thought that would happen if they both got equally good starts

Its hard to get a bike off the line as fast as it possibly can, yet easy to launch a gtr time after time haa

But everyone knows that SV650s are a girls bike ;-)

  • Author

Haha. And judging by your username, you must be a girl then? ;).

I was , along time ago.

I joined the Org 14 years ago when I got my first SV650. Had it for four years, then an Sv1000, a Triumph Sprint St1050 and now got an Explorer ;-)

User name on the org is the same. I knew I had read your GTR thread somewhere before Lol

  • Author

Haha.

Yeah. Not a bad bike history there. What were you thinking when you bought the explorer though? You might have been a girl on the SV, but you've convinced me your a boring midlife crisis guy with the explorer ;). Unless you do lots of proper touring, then ill forgive you :).

I would like an sv1000 though. Might just be the next bike on my list.

Yeah. I thought id see what different views i got from different people. Obviously i was expecting people to be more biased towards the car. Was interesting reading the views in each i thought though :).

gotta keep the usernames the same mate, its the only way ill remember who i am! Haha.

Girls bike or not, I've seen some lovely looking SV650s out there.

I've had 4 bikes, NC30 was definitely the best handling. GSXR600 the quickest. The most fun?? - CBR125!!

Im not sure i agree its a girls bike to be brutally honest.

Alot of very skilled riders come back down to sv's because its a cheap, fun biike that you dont have to go twice the NSL to enjoy riding.

I dont mind though. Call em whatever you like, but youll have to lose me on my favourite road for me to care haha.

I agree mate. theres alot to be said about 125's isnt there.

Awesome at the time, but wouldnt like to go back to it haha.

Managed to find a couple of pics of my old 650 - twin renegade high level cans, modified air box, raised tank... Sounded a bit fruity!

The girl's bike tag is a standing joke on the Org, but in fairness it is actually a great little bike, apart from the stock suspension and brakes. A mate of mine used to regularly **** off Gsxr1000 riders on track days by just riding round the outside of them in the corners.

The Explorer might look like an old man's bike, but don't be fooled. With 130hp it doesn't hang around. Going quick easily and smoothly is a lot easier on the Exp than on a 650. It is ideal for me, as I do a fair bit of touring on it. In a couple of weeks I am heading up to Scotland for a few days - total trip will be about 1750 miles in 6 days. Have also got a two up trip over to Milan planned for July. I tried touring on the 650 and 1000, but after about 250 miles in the saddle my wrists and knees would be killing me. With the Exp I can blat around all day with no aches or pains at all.

I might come up via the Peaks Oli so I can take you up on you challenge over you favourite road ;-)

Looks good! I wouldnt mind twin high levels. But iv got some throw over panniers that i like to keep unburnt ;).

I know mate :). They arent bad at all. Iv thought about upgrading my suspension a few times, but im still undecided if im keeping it long term or not haha.

Yeah. Just the bike for the job isnt it :). What made you go for the explorer over the GS adventure then? (I bet you get asked that a lot hsha). I do like the exp.

I wouldnt mind that at all. I'll have to get some miles done first mine, just out a brand new pr4 front tyre on. Lol

I agree about the aches and pains. Thats one of the reasons i want a vfr or something similar. Just a little comfier for the long journeys out.

Being a biker I'm pretty much on the same page when it comes to cars, in general they don't feel that fast. Compared to a ZZR1400 nothing (standard) on 4 wheels costing less than high 6 figures can come close. The biggest of the bikes are just mentally fast, too fast for the roads really.

I've been in a few "fast" cars that haven't impressed me much at all, such as a Jag XF-R and Caterham (160bhp version), a few Impreza's etc.

However, I've been in some cars that did feel fairly fast. The Porsche 911 (996) Turbo and 911 GT3 RS were both pretty nippy. Years ago I went in the fastest Caterham at the time, and that was fast. The fastest car I've been in though was probably an Ariel Atom. It wasn't even the supercharged one but around Donington it left the Ferarris and Lambos for dead. Sadly it was in the wet so I never got to feel it's full potential, but even in the wet it was rapid.

Im not sure how accurate that is though. I cant see the description on my ipad so i cant see if the GTR is standard or stage 1, 2 or whatever.

It doesn't say whether the GTR is standard or not.

It's being able to get off the line that make all the difference. Have a watch of a BMW 1000RR beating a 1200hp Veyron from a rolling start.
