Lucky Fox

Featured Replies

Last night I had to test my VRS brakes in anger for the first time. I was driving at 60ish down unlit country lanes with the Xenon's on full and listening to Van The Man when a fox ran from right to left very close in front of me. I slammed on the anchors and the car slowed unbelievably quickly. It was very close, but the lucky fox lived to hunt another day. I am certain that my previous "sporty cars" would have mowed him down in the same scenario, and that I would be pulling teeth and brains out of ruined front bumpers.

So, the brakes have been added to my list of VRS likes. It appears that the big front discs are not just for show, and that under heavy braking the car and wide tires offer extreme stability. I didn't even notice the chugger-chugger of ABS cutting in.

I had a similar situation at 30 with a dog (was on a lead. But the owner let go) running in front of me.

It also was very close, I was really shaken but the owner was much worse, hit face was a picture. I think he saw his dog's life flash before his eyes.

The fact it's pretty light for its size makes a huge difference as well.

It did it to me in a village near Calais on Monday, the driver in front just hit the anchors to let someone cross the road never mind everyone behind him.

Oh yes the brakes are very good, probably the best I've had on any car. And to think you to pay extra and spec the performance pack on a Golf GTi to get these front brakes!

Find mine very grabby at low speeds though. More typical of Audi brakes in the past (and present?). Agree excellent when you need to stop quickly though.
