  • After adjusting for spec differences and taking into account discounts, the gap is over £5K and with 4.9% PCP for the Seat and 6.6% PCP for the Golf, the Leon makes a strong case for itself. The Leon

  • I have just read that there is a New Seat Leon ST Cupra coming in 2015.   That will be an interesting addition, a Fast not to big estate with good handling.    Something missing from the Skoda rang

That's just over £24k for a car that includes DCC. Doesn't say if it's DSG or manual, most likely latter I would have thought.

Can't quite get my head around paying £31k for a Seat Leon...,...

I'm sure there will be discount but that list price seems mental lol

Took a one year old 280 out yesterday less than 6k on the clock and going for £19995 that is one hell of a depreciation from just shy of £29k new.

The diff works a treat, it drove well but the road noise on 19"s was unreal.

It was OK but then popped to the Audi dealer and the quality feel of interior materials is miles apart.

Reckon wait a while and get a used S3

Not sure if this isa good deal on the Leon Cupra or not .Others will know on here that have great interest in the Markhttp://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/five-best-new-car-deals-week

Guys, in my experience, Broker4cars are about as cheap as you'll find for genuine Seat deals. They have a very good relationship with a Seat dealer! Currently, if you fancy even a Sub8 Cupra (I'd like it for the bigger, lighter brake setup, although even the standard stoppers are very capable tbh), they're prices start at under 23.5k with a saving approaching 6k. I don't think you'll find cheaper in the UK. If you do then let me know! :)

Also worthy of a note nearly all the second hand 280's I have seen around at the moment all have reg plates with "KU14 W??"

These are all the press cars that Seat gave to be hammered by journalists and whoever else got invited to the launch at Mallory park.

I know most people will give their cars a good thrashing but at least you know the circumstances.

Buyer beware :)

The whatcar reviewer is a joke, anyone complaining about the firm ride of a well set up chassis should stick to driving the cooking versions. Ride is far from crashy even in Cupra mode. Sport is the perfect balance, comfort is just too bouncy.

The second review was great until the reviewer complained about kickdown, well the whole point of DSG in fast driving is to use it in manual paddle mode! THATS the comparison that should be made, not full auto sport mode!

The second review made me laugh! "Feisty four banger" , "sinister Teutonic brain" haha! Golf R is a good choice for the practical gearhead lol

Less is more? Don't think so for day-day motoring.

Track day weekend car?

I wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade, not at that price. The 6 pot Brembo's are not needed, the std brembos are fine, a pair of HP2000 pads would be fine. Tyres you can fit anyway, and the wheels are just not worth the extra!

PH must be one of the few to think that the Scooby is the better choice, let alone the ST. EVO placed the Megane just ahead of the Leon in this months shoot out. The ST was close to last as I recall, very disappointing. I think they are overstating the benefit of the performance pack upgrade too. Take away the tyres as anyone can add them; the brembos don't add much (unless on track and therefore can handle the thermal load better) over the standard brembo set up (albeit badged as Cupra). The rest is cosmetic. I do agree with the comments about the noise - I much prefer the engine sound in "Comfort"

TBH, the more I read of PH's reviews, the less I take much notice. They're often out of sync with everyone else, so either there is a journo conspiracy and PH smashes the myths, or they just miss the point, often. It's all subjective anyway....:)

The main reason for specifying the sub8 pack in my eyes would be for the brakes and wheels - not for cosmetic reasons but for reasons of weight reduction as this is the implied reason its received these parts. A decent reduction in unsprung weight should turn a good steer into an excellent steer. The side skirts im not fussed about tbh but id pay the money for the sub8 pack without hesitation. :)

For the road? That much of a difference? Not for me it wouldn't, it's quick enough already. The 6 pot brembo calipers are not lighter from what I can gather, but I could be wrong.

6 pots?! That's news as I was sure they were 370mm disks with four pots but six is better than four...  :)

Id say the sub8 was aimed more towards fast road/track tbh and the "Brembo calipers are significantly lighter" according to Seat and I've read the same re the wheels (which I don't actually rate in terms of looks tbh)

I believe the std calipers are brembo 4 pot, but not branded. I should know this, working for the UK brembo importer.....

Sorry, don't have a clue where you are taking this now or even what that means...

You said that "The 6 pot brembo calipers are not lighter from what I can gather, but I could be wrong" I replied saying I thought they were in fact four pots and yes, the Seat literature states they are indeed lighter and every press statement and article confirms they are Brembo so that's not being disputed. :)

Sorry yeti man, typing in a hurry! The sport pack 6 pot calipers are lighter. The standard calipers fitted to the cupra 280 are also manufactured by brembo.

But where are you getting six pot calipers? That was the part of interest to me as everything I've seen and read says they are four pot Brembos clamping 370mm disks in the sub8 pack. :)

Dunno..I thought I'd read somewhere that they were! The Sub8 pack are 4 pot calipers, and 370mm vs 340mm discs. That's a big upgrade, but bear in mind that's an extra lump of cast iron, even if the calipers are lighter. I've no idea what the respective wheel end weights are, I don't have access to that info, as it's an OE system. SEAT UK would (should anyway) be able to tell you.

so what pack are the six pot calipers in that you keep referring to? Afaik there aren't any available on the new Leon, at least not oe or via a factory order. Sub8 is the pack that was being discussed and it definitely has four pots units :)

Imaginary ones in my head I'm afraid  in a space where work and fun have got confused. It's been a long week already, and only Wednesday :(
