So does the standard Cupra 280 have 2-pot brakes on the front?

  • After adjusting for spec differences and taking into account discounts, the gap is over £5K and with 4.9% PCP for the Seat and 6.6% PCP for the Golf, the Leon makes a strong case for itself. The Leon

Most likely Tom, but without asking SEAT UK I can't be certain. I do know that Brembo make them as the tier 1 brake supplier for the Cupra models anyway.

Brembo make a lot of OE brake systems so its no real surprise. I thought it was a basic sliding caliper, single pot design on the standard Cupra brake setup.

Right!

This is where I got the impression the standard brakes were a 4 piston design:

They are probably wrong here, unless the sub8 pack simply has a lightweight 4 pot caliper. SEAT UK are no help, they don't know....<sigh>

PH thinks they are single piston:

Since you asked, I'm now determined to find out, hopefully from the (Italian) horses mouth....

Here they are (standard) single piston calipers manufactured by....TRW!

Comfort mode is the worst if you have car sick susceptible passengers, it's too bouncy. I rarely use the preset modes, and always use Individual, the steering is dire, so am not sure what Ben Barry is smoking (I've already had to tweet him some instructions on using the satnav!). Everything on sport, except steering and diff lock, which are both set to cupra. If I could disable the stupid synthetic noise, I'd have engine set to cupra too, for the quicker pedal response. I thought the Golf R was even noisier!

You can unplug it or turn it off with vcds (but im sure you know that already, more for other readers).

Trouble is, I don't know anyone who has it near me. I'd also like to switch the diff lock from normal to "hard".

The irony is that a lot of people (on the Golf R forum) who don't like the Soundaktor noise, and unplug it, tend to put it back on as they find the lack of any noise even worse :)

I prefer it au naturel tbh! I've often set it to comfort mode, but the throttle sensor voltage is reduced so it gives the feeling of being a bit laggy. The noise in sport is tolerable, in cupra it's just silly.

I know what you mean, it does make a nice noise in comfort mode cos you can hear the exhaust pops hehe. I'm gonna drop mine down to around 20% i think, when i get around to it.

Crikey, you must be caning yours if your fuelly stats are correct!

Im really not, even on the first tank when I was taking it super easy I only got around 25mpg - Although I never seem to get anywhere near the figures other people post, so maybe it is just how I drive.

Well, when I push it across mid Wales, worst I've got is around 28mpg. Motorway at good progress speeds is around 31-32, with some effort I've got 36

Calculated or infotainment numbers, cos mine are in the 30's on the display but its well out. Long term is 29.8 atm i think.

That's calculated using a pen and a calculator, as fuelly doesn't work properly for me any more.

Seen a few of those Keith. Both are too artificial inside, don't like them. Neither of them are remotely as exciting either inside or outside as a boggo standard sud 1.2 ti

Even my GT estate the steering is sooooo vague in Normal I have it set to sport...........infact I am now setting the throttle to sport so I can make use of the engine properly when I want to overtake someone....without having to flipping well play with stupid bells & whistles............. :wall:

Maybe i am missing it, ( not going back through the article.)

but would have been good if he just said in that little bit what tyres were on.

Not even that sure he adjusted or checked tyre pressures.

Glad Ben Barry heeded my tip for using the satnav search.

I should have done it old skool like you... as I had fuelly setup wrong (idiot!). It's now a bit more respectable. so now 0.3 out from the computer which is totally acceptable.

Well, I managed 37.7 on the trip back from North Yorkshire to my house on Thursday. Kept it below 80 and avoided any WOT moments until the last 20 mile stretch. At one point when I stopped at the services on the M42 I was at 40.6!
