Samsung Galaxy S3 and Rsap

Featured Replies

Hi all.... .

 Yet another question from me....

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.3.. When I test drove the Superb I tried this to make sure it connected to the bluetooth, which it did... Does anyone know if this would have connected by rsap profile? I can't remember :(

I believe that the handset is rsap compatible

Anyone using a Galaxy S3 and getting full rsap functionality?

Stuart

Yes I am. The s3 will happily connect in rsap mode unless the service provider messes around with the phone in some way.

Only just got mine so by no means an expert

My SIII connects fine to the car via bluetooth premium, and I can send and view texts on the columbus/maxidot great

Just cant get it to say them out loud.

Will watch this thread with interest, as it seems we are in the same boat

Thank you :) I am on Vodafone

I know it did connect OK when I did the test drive, just can't remember how :) plus I did not fully test it... enjoying the ride too much lol

I have a Samsung Note 2 - connects via Premium B/Tooth - shows me the sms on the Maxidot BUT won't read it out.

I know it must be a setting somewhere

Anyone got a Note 2 to connect and have text read out loud ?

I know when I tested it with the demo car it paired ok, asked if I wanted my phone book to down load,  downloaded my phonebook to the Columbus.. would this confirm it connected in rsap mode?

Also can you get your texts to the display etc, music via bluetooth?

To connect in rSap, go to settings, phone, phone mode or similar on the maxidot. From there choose premium to connect in rSap (or handsfree otherwise which is the more basic connection without text support etc). Newer modules will then remember this setting for the next time.

Text readout if available (depends on module) is under the maxidot SMS menu for the individual text.

And I can get music streaming yes, although in newer modules you have to separately connect a paired phone in the media player menu.

I cant get the texts to display on the maxidot, only the head unit. But thats to do with my rather complicated setup to get the newer module to work in my pre FL Octavia.

Sorry double post

Thanks for the reply :)

Mine will be a brand new vehicle so I imagine this will have the latest module fitted :)

Would it still download the phonebook in the basic connection mode?

Just to add, all my contacts are on the sim card, my current Exeo downloads the contacts to the display and the satnav... if the  Superb I test drove did the same, and the names appeared in the display and the satnav does this suggest it did connect by rsap? It must have allowed it to access the sim card :)

Yes it just doesnt have the premium features like SMS and WiFi functions but still very good and streaming works.

I may call in the dealer to check it out a bit more :)

Thanks for the replies and help :)

See if you can get them to agree to a 3C8035730D module to be installed. These are the latest premium modules (the suffix of D being important in this respect), although there is not a lot wrong with the slightly earlier modules either!

It seems to work whether the contacts are on the SIM or the phone, downloading them from the phone if that is where they are. But I would guess your assumption is correct yes.

I would expect it will have the latest module installed as it's being built to order :)

Another quick question if I may.... Just read on the Vodafone forum... this comment made by someone...

Hi,

I have a new car which uses rSAP to use the SIM for data and handsfree etc. - this works fine, but every time I connect my phone to the car I get automatic sms config messages as though I've taken the SIM out of my phone and put it in another phone (I understand this is because rSAP simulates this really via bluetooth).

The bit in red rings a bell with me.... When I set my phone up in the demo car, I recived a text message telling me I needed to confirm/download setting in order for my internet access to work.. I presume that this was caused by the head unit needing the settings from Vodafone to work correctly using Rsap... Does these confirm this for me :) .. i,e my Galaxy S3 connected to the demo car in the rsap profile?

Sorry to ask all the stupid questions :)

Stuart

in RSAP mode the car is the telephone, so in essence you are putting your sim card into a different handset. Bluetooth is only used to read all the settings from your sim card and transfer them to the car.

So if the network stated that things had changed, the network thought my SIM card had been put in another device, i.e. the car .. So it appears that it did connect in rSap mode... is my thinking correct?

I think so.

Thank you :) just put my mind at rest that the Galaxy S3 does support rSap.. :)

I know when I changed from my IPhone to the S3 I received the same message for the correct reason, my SIM was in another handset... When I connect to my EXEO and IBIZA it does not do this so it is using the conventional bluetooth so no message as nothing has changed...

So it must have thought  the SIM had moved again when I connected to the car... In theory anyway Lol

The last post in this Vodafone question confirms it I think http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Pay-monthly-services/Just-received-two-odd-texts-from-VF/td-p/1269366

Yes rest easy!! But if it were me I would be insisting on the latest module given what you are probably paying, not assuming.

I would hope that a car that has not even been built yet would have the latest module fitted.... I only ordered it 3 weeks ago, 10-12 weeks delivery :(

Thanks for all your help and advice, i do appreciate it...

No problem. Would hope so too but I've read some references to older software on the Columbus in a new car for example.

Went into the dealer to collect my Seat Ibiza this morning, so whilst I was there I tried my Samsung S3 in the demo Superb again... I can now confirm it connect using RSAP :) no problem, comes up as "Bluetooth premium" ... So it seems that will work OK
