Vrs Suspension

Featured Replies

hi,

has anyone lowered their vrs? not sure whether to go for coilovers or just springs.are the standard shocks capable of taking just lowered springs?or will this cause problems.have heard that lowering with coilovers can cause the driveshafts to fail,is this true?just so you know where i'm starting from the car sits on 19"wheels.i would appreciate any suggestions/comments thanks:cheers:

19" wheels. And you want to lower it?

Are you running rubber bands for tyres? If not, then you'll need to be running both lowered *and* stiff to avoid painful chafing I would have thought.

Jon (TaviaRS) might have some sagely advice, but is at the RPM tour.

Unless anyone else is around.....

...I am, but I haven't got a vRS, and if I had one I would be raising it to get the ground clearance of my 4X4! Don't suppose that helps, though.

Ah ha! Predictable answer from Denis. ;)

Mine's heading downwards by 30mm soon (about 5mm lower than a std vRS), but only on 205/55x16s, so no problems likely with clearance.

Actually, Denis, does the 4x4 have increased clearance, or does it run at the non-vRS clearance (as per my L&K)??

hi all,

sorry not sure if i'm right but i thought the vrs was 35mm lower than regular octavias?is the ride height lowered on the tdi from the factory?what brand of spring are you fitting?:)

Lloyd's (LLB) running 19'' wheels but I can't remember if he's modded his suspension; I think he is thinking about going the KW route at the moment.

Paul (fflen) is running 18'' and have the KW2's, IIRC. You can play around with the ride heigth and damper stiffness (oooeer).

KW might be your best solution as they are adjustable.

Nat - welcome to BriSkoda! I think the 'driveshafts failing' bit was on ****'s car - which was basically a track day car - not heard of any others?

Quite a few people as SkodiRS mentioned (including myself) are going the KW route - they have 3 variants available priced at roughly

'Standard' clearance is 134mm for Hatch and Estate; the vRs has 119mm; and the 4X4 151mm. Given that the TDi has more front end weight than petrol versions, and that the L&K is also heavier than other models because of the extra goodies, are you sure you should be lowering your car more than a vRS, Howard?

Hi Denis,

I have just had the Eibach ProKit fitted (last Thursday) to lower my L&K TDi Estate by 30mm and ground clearance doesn't seem to be an issue, certainly over speed humps that I have encountered to date.

With the std L&K springs, which seem to be very soft, (not sure if they are softer than Ambinete/Elegance) I found that the engine undertray was scraping on some of the humps that I go over, but I suspect that because the Eibachs are harder, it actually improves the ground clearance as the front probably doesn't dip so much under braking!

Oh, yes, and I'm running 17" with 215/45 so my rolling radius is almost the same as std 205/55 - I was considering going to 18" but that would have meant 40 pofile tyres which are a bit of a pain for every day use (IMHO!)

John.

so let me get this right my maths is'nt brilliant, the vrs is 15mm lower than standard hatch/estate and 32mm lower than 4x4.so if i was to fit say the eibach pro kit it would sit 15mm lower than standard vrs height?thanks for your help:)

At least if you went for KW coilover's -- you could raise the suspension height if you needed to(fully laden for holiday's and the like) -- if you go the spring's only route you will be fixed....could cause some problem's with the 19" wheel's.

For this same reason I am looking at the KW's -- and I'm only running 18" Wheels !

Good to hear that, John. I might add Eibach's to my wish list as I am now insured with 'mod friendly' LiverpoolVictoria. :)

hi guys,

thanks for your input,i think i will have kw's i know there about the best out there at the moment, being stainless steel they will last!and not rust and seize up.just got to find the cash now.your right about being fixed with just springs, with the coilovers if i do experience problems with chaffing on the 19's,at least i can raise it!anyway thanks again guys appreciate your help.cheers nat
