Nav instructions on columbus

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The first query may have been answered several times, I apologise but couldn't find it in the search box.

My Maxidot no longer displays compass and road directions when nav is active. Checked 37-navigation and byte 7 is checked for communication between HU and maxidot. Anybody any clues based on this, I will post up scan results but no faults appeared relating to this when did one this evening. Nav function works fine no issues there.

Also should there be a Nav menu in maxidot when accessed via the stalk as there is nothing in mine?.

Second one is not important but how do I know if I have a sound system as listed in Radio-56? Just wondering as when it's selected the radio volume is quite compared to when its not selected so hence I have not selected the Skoda sound system and left it alone! Just interested to know why that's all.

The two issues are related I suspect. Is 56 ticked in the gateway installation list under 19?

I think the sound system is the premium 12 speaker system option so pretty sure you would notice if you had it. The original pr codes on the boot sticker or inside cover of service book will tell you for sure. The codes can be decoded here: http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

Cheers Adam I will have a look tomorrow, but I'm sure it's ticked in the gateway double check though! Just wasn't sure constitutes a "sound system" as it has a radio and speakers what more do you need!

Thanks

Well finally got chance to run a scan, here's the results below; there should be a full scan ( I know what some of the faults are already) and ID's for the relevant controllers

I checked the gateway as asked above 56-radio 37 Nav all ticked. I also checked 16 Steering wheel and it's coded for 3 spoke wheel with no multifunction and also with onboard computer and CCS fitted. When opening maxidot menu it only has the basics of MFD or setup, no navigation, audio options etc.

If anyone knows what else to check so I can get the compass and directions back on maxidot it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

You will only get the radio and nav listed in the maxidot menu when the radio is turned on, all it will do is bring up the relevant screen, in radio it will be the station tuned into. In nav it will show a compass if no route is selected or the instructions if so.

I think in order to have the split screen you have to go into the menu in the Columbus itself. Not sure without going out and checking but you either will have to go into Navigation or display to check, the relevant box will show up and you will need to tick it.

If you want to compare my coding for 37/56, here is mine and yours next to each other

Mine:     06000402000100010000
Yours:  0E0004000001009200

Mine has an extra byte and some differences which may be worth investigating.

Countryboy- Many thanks for your reply, I will have to go through all menus and options again!

Adamal- well god knows what has been going on as I haven't been messing with coding, especially to that extent, quite a big difference there mate. I fear this may now be getting past my level of understanding with coding etc!!.

from what you have seen from the scan installed list, is your car similar equipment wise??

Thanks

In a word yes, your scan has many similarities to mine. I have the MDI and MFSW fitted which may be a reason for a difference in the Columbus coding, but we have the same version Columbus.

Have a look at the bytes that are different and see why that might be. As you have a copy of your existing code you can always try changing to the same values of the bytes as in mine. Do it sequentially and it might helo you resolve it...

Adam, I have been out to it today and broken my current coding down, i'll try to show this below;

0E- show that parking aid/assist is inactive-correct for my car

00- no sound system- correct

04-4 speaker setup

00- no microphone diagnostics-correct

00-not coded speaker monitoring inactive

01- equalization Skoda Octavia 1Z

92- no voice control, no steering wheel buttons, display variant-sportsline

00- boot screen for VW and traffic sign inactive

Now where you noticed extra byte on yours, if I added 00- this brings up optical parking and in car graphics- I'm guessing mine didn't have this as Columbus must be retro fit?? not sure as label in the boot does show code for colour nav when built.

So with the other differences in our codes yours being L@K must have much more kit than the vRS. When I tired to code with extra byte it wasn't having any of it message of " Error 31 request out of range", email to rosstech will be next I reckon!

Many thanks for your help on this mate

I'll try and check my coding in detail this weekend to see if I can offer anymore.  The extra byte might be present as I have added optical parking by changing the module (and some awkward wiring), so not sure Ross-Tech will be able to help on that one as it is pretty non-standard!

Mine, albeit on a Fabia stopped working properly after I did some incorrect coding. I set the coding back and it still didn't work. What did fix it was clearing all the faults and then either disconnecting the battery or rebooting the Columbus (I know I tried both and only one worked but I can't remember which).

My incorrect coding caused communication errors which I see you have a number of hence my suggestion. Hope you get it working.

Clear all your fault codes first by going in to each controller one by one and clearing from there.

Try unchecking the checkbox for BAP on the Columbus, doing a hard reboot on the Columbus, then enabling BAP again and rebooting again (assuming yours is a FaceLift model). If it isn't a facelift, do it the other way round, enable BAP then disable it.

If you still keep getting the communication errors with Nav and Radio you have a CANBUS issue to the NAV unit. Have you piggybacked a phone kit or MDI or anything off of the back of the Columbus? If so, disconnect it and see what happens.

Thanks for replies guys, in answer to them;

Adam- cheers again for your help will be appreciated if you can but please don't waste your BH weekend on my part!

Phil- thanks for that, just can't see where and when I have changed the coding to the extent I have caused total chaos!

Andy- If it isn't a facelift, do it the other way round, enable BAP then disable it-this applies to me.

Can you guys tell me how to hard reboot Columbus please?

From what I've seen from scan logs from just after I got the car the radio and Nav have had comms issues from then until present pretty much confirming the retrofit but I have found the coding from this time which should be what was there at time of purchase, when all was working so this may help.

Again cheers for the help chaps

Steve

You press three buttons at once, can't remember which ones though!

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

<, > and i for a reboot.

Excellent, cheers KBPhoto going to have a go a bit later

If you don't have an i button, then it is eject.

Should have added that in the previous post I made. Sorry.

Thanks again

Steve
