vRS fogs

Featured Replies

Hi all

Done a search could not see anything, so point me in the right direction if it has been done before.

MY2012 FL model:

My fogs are very yellowish, is there a whiter lamp available that will not effect the light monitoring function?

If so please advise and also what type of lamp are they?

TIA

Think I have found the answer vRS fogs are: HB4's

Just need to find something sensible colour wise to replace them with, without going silly.

Had these in mine for 18 months. A lot whiter and a lot brighter than standard. Match well with the HIDs.

Thanks for the recommendation's.

Just what I needed :)

I'd imagine that theyre deliberately yellowish because when used correctly as fog lights that colour is far more effective than blue-white ones.

I have these type (but different fitting) in both the Superb and TT, they are very close to the OE 4,300K xenon’s

This is true,

however in 28 years of mainly 100K miles PA I have only ever NEEDED to use my front fogs less than a handful of times, now they get used for cornering lights as well I would rather they matched the xenon colour.

I appreciate the yellow for fog etc but prefer to keep the colour similar.

At the moment I'm running yellowish fog, standard led DRLs and night breaker plus headlights.

This gives three different shades and it drives me nuts.

On misty sorta days (not night time) I tend to run with side lights, which is dimmed DRLs and yellowish fogs, so matching fogs to DRLs is getting a bit closer :)

Uh oh, can of worms opened :giggle:

Ummmm....just stumbled across a thread on here from 2010 and that bloke got pretty much stoned to death for wanting to drive with a whiter fog light.

Waiting for the fog light "incorrect/inappropriate use"police :)

Ignore them...Its not their car or concern

I too have cornering fogs and prefer to have the fog lights a similar colour to my HID Headlights

Driving home the other night and it was pretty foggy so thought ah I'll pop my fog lights on....hummm ok where are they? Gave up looking after awhile. Had the car six months and I've had it switched to auto lights in all of that time. Assuming I didn't have any but that didn't seem right. Is that possible or is there a magic switch somewhere ;-)

^^^ It is one pull towards you on your light switch for front fogs and pull out again for rear fog too :)

But, you need to first move the swith over to dipped headlights first.

The switch won't pull out if on 'Auto'.

I tried this on the way home when hitting some fog after last night's meet. I have to admit this experiment lasts all of 10 seconds. It really doesn't work for me (in my opinion) or the fogs are set too low (estimate 20m ish range).

As ChrisRs says: ignore them. Most of them hate the idea of cornering lights too.

As already said..its one pull on the light switch

Havent you a Manual?

Ha! I pulled over and twisted, pushed and pulled every knob and button I could find to try and get fogs on. Seems a combination of twisting and pulling that I didn't try would have done it.  Thanks for clearing that up.

Technically its a twist and a pull.

I do indeed have a manual, incidentally the reading of which enlightened me to such jewels as, not double checking the car is locked without unlocking it as that disables the alarm and the wonders of the little pull up thing in the jumbo box. I did however (and to my ultimate peril) skip the section marked lights - which I had assumed would be pretty self explanatory - particularly with the inclusion of Auto on my car (how auto would deal with fog did not spring immediately to mind). As the saying goes "to assume, makes an ass out of u and me". In this case mostly me and mostly at about 1 am on a deserted road along the east coast. While having fog lights on to warn the various mist dwelling badgers would have been nice,my greatest priority at the time was to get home after a 17 hour day, jump into bed and warm my feet up on the wife. Driving home with full beams all the internal lights and with one foot on the brake no doubt had a similar effect so I managed to complete my journey mostly badger free. Since that fateful night, my interest in the lack of fogs has peaked in 2 separate conversations with my father in law, and an Octavia owning brother in law. While this is exceptional polite conversation fodder, it did not at any point develop my mild feint of interest into an overpowering urge to race out to the car rip open the manual at the lights section and quench a fevered burning desire for knowledge. This reckless attitude would of course left me ruing my decision at the next onset of thick fog, where it not for you guys who have solved this mystery!

So yes I do have a manual and no I hadn't read that bit. Thanks

OMG...I'm beginning to regret answering

Good luck with your lights..LOL

Haha sorry Chris. Just having a bit of fun.

There will be a day sometime soon (maybe on the return of the death smog cloud) when I'll use the fogs and will be hugely grateful for the help.

Good point

or sidelights

Good point, the black 2005 Octavia Sport I pass most days on the A19 should have told me that.

Pitch black, bright sunshine, dry, raining, morning, night - sidelights and front fogs on religiously.

I tried this once at night and couldn't see a bloody thing, probably says more about my eyesight than the ability of the lights :giggle:

Mtec's as per Chris's link turned up today, fitted in about 10mins,looked whiter!

Just need to wait for darkness but look more in keeping with the dimmed DRLs.

The actual lamp was physically slightly smaller than the originals I removed, obviously the fitment was the same though?
