Emden & shipping

Featured Replies

Our car seems to have spent ages sitting in Emden waiting to come to UK. Info from dealer was that it was built w/b 17th, arrived at port around 20th I believe but has still not left there yet. Dealer mentioned a possible transporter driver strike here causing a backlog. I was just wondering how this compared with other people's experiences. 2 weeks sitting on the quayside seems quite a while.

This will be or first new new car so this is all new to me. Dealer explained build wait before we ordered, and I've read all the posts on here explaining why that is, but I assumed once they'd building a vehicle they'd do all they can to get it to customer.

Once the car arrives at Emden it joins the back of a long queue with other cars from all manufacturers waiting for a free space. How long the car waits depends on where the ships are in relation to the port and if they are heading elsewhere first. There are only a small number of car transporter ships delivering to the UK, so it has to wait its turn.

What did they quote when you put your order in?

My citigo was also at Emden for about a week however when I checked today it is now at UK port :)

Wish I knew which UK port it was at now hehe

Exactly the same for me. Built w/c 17 March and has been at the port for ages. Starting to really annoy me now.

My last Fabia was like that over a week at embden, it then spent Christmas at Grimsby to arrive at dealers new year eventually got it nine days later.so when I wanted the Citigo I bought a prereg one because I could not stand the long wait .I'm Just impatient i guess .

Original estimate was end of March, which I knew was optimistic, but presumed once it was actually built it would be here soon. But I guess it's just one little car to a huge company.

I don't know about you but I think it's because I knew it's there built and waiting but not knowing how long it could be. Waiting for it to be built I had a date and put it out of my mind until then. To be honest I wouldn't mind if it had sat there for a month if I knew that from outset rather than every day wondering are we going to get a call to say it's on its way. It's just not knowing that's made me impatient. Hope yours is on its way soon.

However got a call yesterday to say it's just arrived in Sheerness. So not long now.

I got an email this evening saying that it's at the UK port. I suspect it'll sit there gathering dust for another week before being delivered to the dealership. Made a mistake ordering it to be honest. Should've waited and bought an Alfa 4c. That's a car worth waiting for.

Just got a message today that my Citigo is also waiting at Edmen. Estimated to be at dealer by 30th April, but not relying on that estimate :)

Mine is also at emden, build week 13 spoke to dealer yesterday he thinks 10-14 days for delivery.

My Elegance 5dr GreenTech 60ps was built in week 13 and is now with my dealer, Sandicliffe Skoda, Leicester. I called in today to sign the paperwork and was shown the vehicle in pre-delivery state.

I think 17 March was week 12. As far as I know it's still at the UK port, rotting into the ground.

  • 2 weeks later...

Dealer told us yesterday that car goes from factory, to Germany (for prep/QC), then for shipping... is this true (as I've not heard this before)....

I spoke to SUK on Tuesday & was told that my Yeti was confirmed built on Mon 14th April, was at Emden on Wed 16th April, & still there on Tue 22nd April. However give we are past the peak of deliveries for people who want new Reg, & as other posters are saying that the cars are turning up quickly from build to delivery.

SUK Customer services did tell me to expect 21 days from build to dealer then however long it takes the dealer to get round to PDI & register.

Given the eratic deliveries my local dealer is getting, saying that when they check the system it says a car is at Emden, but in reality is with them having its PDI, it is very difficult to gauge what is really happening.

Car finally arrived at dealer last Thursday, but because of bank holiday we are now able to have delivery today.
