  • How can more light be any less than useful when make tight manoeuvres in dark car parks etc?

  • Don't be daft. Nobody here has claimed that they can't park without them. What several of us have said is that when you are parking they can sometimes be handy.

  • Had them coded by a member on here with VCDS.

How can you tell if you have them on your VRS?

Turn the steering wheel while stationary, get out and have a look! One fog light comes on to illuminate in direction you are turning!

Im yet to find a time when iv needed them and having seen other cars with them I think they look naff, form>function and all that :D

Have to agree, I have them on my superb and they are a waste of time. And you get people telling you that you have a light blown too! ;) ;)

Had them on the CC and found them quite useful tbh

Had them on a Ford S-Max hire car in Germany and found then quite useful on twisty country lanes TBH.

Looks like my Octy won't come with them?

Cornering Fogs are really quite fun.

They let you see how often some drivers need to turn their steering wheel to do a reverse.

Park on Kerbs, get back into a Supermarket parking spot they had already been into, then tried to improve on.

Wonderful at Mini and bigger roundabouts as they fail to use the Indicator Stalk to switch that Orange Flashing light on, off. on, off. The one that is designed and fitted to all cars to let other know your intentions.

The ones you are taught to use, and used during your driving test.

Driver Input required.

Best of all,

as you go along a road and see a car at the other side of the road at night time,

Dipped Beam & Sidelights on,

they reverse into a driveway and show you one Fog light as they do it.

If One Fog or Cornering Light is good,

then why not just have 2 on, obviously against what the UK Highway code says.

Use Fog Lights in Poor Visibility, and switch off when not required.

Both fog lights come on in reverse.

Do they on an Octavia,  my Bad, Sorry.

They do every car i've seen with cornering fogs.

They can not be doing their job if you are not noticing what they do, safety feature in Broad daylight. poor daylight,

slow speed in town Daylight, in Drizzle, Rain,  Dusk or Dawn, & just any old time,  even when it is dark.

and capable to dazzle other road or pavement users willy nilly, Auto Function.

(If they are Fog Lights, why is only one on good,

and 2 on when no fog, are you Driving With Fogs on and can get you stopped and issued with a Ticket/Penalty/Fine?)

or maybe you need to go to Specsavers.

Sorry, who exactly are you ranting at?  And can you clarify what you're saying as some of it makes no sense....

Not a rant, a reply to you.

You said

'both fogs lights come on in reversing'.

You said

'They do every car i've seen with cornering fogs'

So i was suggesting if you never see one Cornering Fog on Cars Reversing, you are missing seeing them,

Never are where cars reversing have a Cornering Fog on,

Or some other option,

Because i see them daily.   So they are out there.

?

The question was about a Single Fog light on as the Steering wheel is turned.

Where the Highway Code advises on Fog LIght Use,

People will observe not putting a Pair of Fogs on to the front when no Fog.

?So why is shining one Fog Light when there is no fog, even for a short time at junctions etc, a good thing.?

Not a rant, a reply to you.

Eh? :D

Simple, please excuse that i need to go to Specsavers.

Should have read,

'You must never be where a car is reversing and turning the steering wheel and one Fog is coming on and off'.

As shown in the Yeti Picture,

He took about 4 single Fog on to the left and to the right to get reversed onto the pavement..

Tesco every day, i see the Ladies in their VW Polos, and RR Evoques take many attempts.

Dispaying the proper Cornering Lights or cornering DRLs, that go on and off with the steering angle

or the Poverty version Fogs some have that manufacturers used as dual Auxiliary Lights/Fogs.

T-W-A-T lights shining, 'this way and that'.

cornering fogs are a pointless feature in my opinion. really no loss at all with the car not having them

One thing I don't understand is why are some Octavia models fitted with H16 (only 16W) bulbs while others with H8 (35W) bulbs for front fogs? While H8 might be ok H16 are just not powerful enough IMO.

I did a test a few months back in the dark with my cornering fogs (I have factory fitted H16 bulbs) and was disappointed with the amount of light they produce. To be honest you have to really pay attention to notice when they come on. Even when backing up the difference with the fogs on or off is minimal. I do have Xenons however but that's exactly the reason why the fogs should have more powerful bulbs. No point in having the fogs/cornering fogs if they don't add anything to better visibility.

I was thinking of replacing the original bulbs but then just turned off the cornering lights function.

Just to come back to compensation, for a vrs ordered last December, assuming it arrives without cornering fogs, if I raise this with suk as an issue will I get some compensation?  If I do then a local and amenable vcds owner can get single malt or champagne instead of beer or wine as thanks for enabling them ( and possibly left mirror dipping on reverse and perhaps more)

Personally i'm glad my vrs doesn't have them as the fog lights give off a normal yellowish type of light that doesn't compliment the Xenons what so ever

It's not an aesthetic purpose, they are a safety / driving feature. Anyone who puts fogs on to make the car look good needs there head testing, and or a some points by plod. Too often drivers are knocking about with fogs on in bright clear weather, they do nothing but dazzle people on the opposite side of the road.

They are great for tight underground / poorly lit car parks, twisty country roads where there is no defined kerb, parking in the dark etc.

Is that not what Full Beam is for,

or dipped if someone will be dazzled by Full Beam.

So if you have to Dip your lights,  why is it OK to shine a single Fog Light at them.?

Sorry to be confused.

When someone at a junction needs additional lights other than head light & sidelights shining

& shining at me,

because they obviously can not see without special lighting, i like to help them with lighting up the dark world they seem to be driving in.

With regards to compensation, it would be a goodwill gesture at best, as with all manufactures it'll state in the brochure that the spec of all models is subject to change without prior notice, unless you have it in writing at the point of sale that the car will come with cornering fog lights. Skoda have their bases covered!

'The information in this brochure referring to specification, design, equipment, material and external appearance relates to the time at which this
brochure was printed. Whilst every effort is made to ensure its accuracy, the information in this brochure is not binding and is subject to alteration.'

Technically I imagine it did come with them fitted, just noone ticked the box on the computer. I'm amazed they didn't just do that instead of paying.

Because most dealers don't seem to realise it is a 10 minute job to enable the adaptation, plus are probably not allowed to enable it anyway without prior authorisation from SUK.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

I can't recall ever being blinded or dazzled by front fogs under any conditions. The beam pattern and location of the lights is done for a reason - to prevent dazzle whilst driving in fog by providing a low flat spread of light that enables you to see the sides of the road etc., and not reflect back off of the fog and dazzle the driver. Hence why they are used as cornering lights for low speed manoeuvres to light up obstacles low down and close to you.

Thats exactly how Fogs should be.   Then some people on car Forums are very keen to up rate Bulbs and the likes,

They want Fogs to be Driving Lights or Spot Lights, and Bulbs are no longer cool enough for them.

(they can fit uprated bulbs, fitting on/off switches seem to be beyond their ability.)

My real beef is in inclines/declines and the likes, junction at different levels,

crossing bridges and the likes in the country, where good lighting is rather important.

say at road works with Temporary Traffic Lights.

So i have a Green traffic light to proceed, and my side is clear, i am going up a slope,  through the Road works. Watching for Cyclists or pedestrains say.

So as i am watching pots holes etc, maybe puddles, might be raining, maybe just dark.

and about to get to and go past the cars waiting at the lights,

That first car turns his steering wheel, and what was 2 light on my right, or 4 lights if i see the complete front of the car become 5

lights, now proper cornering lights just shine at you.

A Cornering Fog just appears for no reasons.

Auto lights, on just any time,

You come up or down a dark road, there is a car stopped, and the driver selects Reversess and shines Fog light or Fog  Lights at you.

& on AWD/4x4 type vehicles they are not so low,  but your vehicle you are driving might be low.

Small people drive small cars sometimes, and sports cars,

Its just all random, different vehicles and a Location Location Location thing.

On, off switches for Cornering fogs seems simple,  Coding and drivers without a clue what their lights do or where they shine are IMO a PITA.

It is all to random.
