Back from warranty work

Featured Replies

Just collected car back from dealer for 2 jobs under warranty;

1) Whistling noise from engine (as reported by others) diagnosed as faulty water pump. New unit fitted including new timing belt. The new pump does look a different design/colour to the original part.

2) New slave cylinder fitted on clutch pedal assembly to stop the dreading groaning / clicking noises - will let people know how this turns out.

Car also had a recall '24a1 W'. Anyone know what this is ?

Found that fault on a german forum, says faulty ecu, something to do with fan control if the translation is accurate.

Have they diagnosed the existing pump as unsuitable?

I think the recall work you had done was a software upgrade to stop the cooling fan cutting in after the engine has shut down.

+1

I had that done too.

Dunno, just said it was whistling so replaced it. Only have mental picture of old one but I'm sure new one 'looks' different.

End of term report for dealer............. Must try harder !!

Clutch click come back even worse.

It's to do with the pedal box not at the gearbox end. Plastic pedals don't help :(

My missus's Citigo (Lexi) doesnt have the clutch click - 2013 Plated 60ps Elegance - about 5500mls on it.

I'll have a look in the next few days, and see if i can find part numbers, and get some pics to compare a non clicky to a clicky pedal,

if someone else can get the clicky photos?

See if theres any obvious differences?

Mines not clicking either at the moment. I've just got a clunky release bearing on gear changes. Don't know if that's normal?

Thread wont let me edit my post?  Its an Ambition not Elegance!!

What kind of Clunking do you mean?

Edited by mac11irl

When you say timing belt. Do you mean the belt that drives the water pump? The timing belt (LHS) does not drive the water pump on the Citigo, just the water pump (RHS of engine. when facing the engine)

Dealer said 'timing belt' replaced. Repair sheet says toothed belt Part no. 04E121605L

Ours started clicking around 10k miles

On every gear change when you release the clutch pedal there's a clunk. Sounds like the release bearing?

Makes the same noise when you are stationary out of gear then release the pedal.

mmm... not got that either.... hope yer clutch aint on the way out already though mate? thats not a good sign longevity wise for this otherwise cracking little car -which is becoming the household town run about, i borrow it rather than the Octy for running down the shops now! i love it in the traffic, and nippng about on its little skinny tyres :D

Lot of UP owners reporting this with no fix. Dealers are saying the usual that it's a characteristic of the car :(

It's done it since I've had it from 641 miles and now on 8600 miles. No clicking pedal but just the release bearing hitting the clutch. Gearbox is fine and silky smooth.

Which is a crock... Its a problem, that VAG dont want to spend the money investigating to fix...

As its not safety critical, thats all. With my limited mechanical sympathy, and no knowledge of the clutch system / layout on these boxes,

Im reckoning its a spring over-lapping on itself, or slipping somewhere.

probably a 90 seconds fix, if it can be located....

To me it's a bit more than the spring issue. VAG group would rather fix the problem than have all the negative press and rumours going around affecting car sales. However, the rate that Citigo's etc are coming off the ferry says sales are good and its not knocked the proffits. Sometimes it takes a while to come up with a solution that will cure it once and for all. Other times the tempoary fixes cause more problems than they fix. Iv'e spent 10 years plus in technical support on medical equipment and the hurdles you have to go through to get a solutions is a slow buisness.
