What is the best polish to use and where can i get touch up paint?

Featured Replies

My car has a few scratches here and there.

I'd like to touch up a few areas.

What is the best polish to use and where can i get touch up paint?

I have checked at Halfords and they only have 3 colours for Skoda's.

Mine is a Beige/Champagne colour.

Also i'd like to get a rear spoiler sprayed and fitted. Where can i get the correct paint from if i want to DIY?

thanks in advance

Depends how deep the scratches are in terms of what polish to use and if they will even polish out. Does your nail catch in the scratch if you run it over it?

Id go to the dealers for touch up paint. what colour code is your car??

I'll have to check. Cant tell you off hand.....

Doesnt appear to be a very common colour.

Biege/Champagne/Gold......

Dealer or eBay if you know the paint code

Is the polishing by hand or machine?

I recommend:

Gtechnik P1 by hand with a hand polishing pad

Scholl S17+ by machine..(DA or Rotary) with a medium polishing pad

If its one of those Halfords things..Take it back...They are crap!!

Only useful for applying sealer/glaze NOT polishing

Where are you? (Can't see as I'm on the phone) . If you're close to me (Nottingham), can have a go with my DA if you like.

Great in my eyes. I've got nothing bad to say about the product.

Which reminds me I need to order a few bottle to top up and a few new pads.

Hi man i can nearly guarantee you the color is called cappuccino, have a look at mine is it the same color....

+1 to this, Scholl is really good. I use S17+ and S40, usually with 3M pads

You might want to give these a call I got an aerosol can made up in the correct colour for around £11 quid ( I was advised its enough to spray a fiesta wing)

Hand polishing is a complete waste of time

You need to machine polish it to sort any defects

While I would agree with that statement if there was heavy damage (scratches or scuffs) that hadn't gone through to the primer or, maybe even orange peel, if all I was doing was polishing, doing it by hand would be more than adequate. Still I suppose it depends how heavy handed you are.

Personally I have managed to T-Cut a pink tornado red Jetta back to a deep lustrous red again and then polishing it with Autoglym Silicon Resin Polish by hand, ok it took me nearly five hours but I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to cleaning the car. (Swmbo says I am OCD). Lol.

Older cars without a clearcoat yes its possible

But the clear coat on a new car makes it quite hard.

I tried to machine polish my bro's black bmw a couple of weeks back (had been through a car wash from day 1 i'd say)

Even with a compound pad and some fine / medium cutting paste it wouldn't look at it. Going to have to get some harsh cutting paste on it :o

Try some Farecla G3 don't forget to spray it with some water on a regular basis as it's quite aggressive and will burn the paint (or even lift it right off) if you go at it too hard. I also recommend the old bin liner pinny to keep you clean at the same time, lol.

Not true at all. I removed scratches along the top of my rear bumper by hand.

It would all depend on the defect.

A few of the comment im reading are a little.. well

Seriously though. Using the correct compounds with correct pads and time. You wont have any problems.

Then again it depends what result you are after. Can't day i would be using Autoglym Resin polish or T cut.
