Stone Chips

Featured Replies

I've picked up a few stone chips on the bonnet - certainly doesn't merit a full respray but can anyone recommend a touch-up product (car is Corrida Red) - dealer or Halfrauds?

A mate of mine just had his wife's MX5 done by chips away sorted out minor dents and scratches from both sides plus bonnet £260.

Very pleased with the result. Must be one near you somewhare

I've used Chips Away (Cumberland Street in Glasgow) a few times on different cars and they've always done a cracking job but it's only few little chips - doesn't justify full bonnet respray.

stone chips are one of the most irritating things that happen, i resprayed my felicia not 3 months ago and already there are stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet :wall:

it really depends how deep they are really, some will need filling otherwise they will be obviously below the level of the surrounding paint, personally i'm not a fan of smart repairs like chips away, but i must admit they do a fairly good job on those type of repairs, they just aren't all that durable.

good luck and let us know how you get on with it.

Brian have the paint mixed at a Motor Factors, and make sure if the Chip is not to the metal, it is wax free,

then use a Needle, pin or cocktail stick to apply tiny drops of well mixed paint.

It is an easy colour match and just build up the touch up.

EDIT, (if through the white primer, you need to use rust inhibitor, then prep a bit more.)

Do not go rubbing the paint around the touch up, the original paint is not thick.

My new Bonnet and new paint has some road rash chips.

Last weeks touch ups are invisible.

George knows paint

He was a great help when I had my first stab at alloy wheel refurbing and the advice above is spot on. Ignore the supplied touch up brush use a cocktail stick and build up the layers slowly, patience is the key.

& IMO Ignore the Chipex Kit for your Corrida Red vRS get the paint mixed to your colour code from the Sticker in the boot... That should be about £7 -£8.

I have had quite a few on the Octy, got a couple to do atm. I use a straightened paperclip and a touch up kit from the dealer. As previously said slowly build up the layers until just above rest of the paint allow to dry and then wet sand back flat. After compound and polish it should be almost invisible.

I did try a chipex kit and found it to be impossible to use and get descent results with.
