changed pollen filter and...

Featured Replies

As per title , i have changed pollen filter yesterday which was absolutely shocking- i bet that thing has never been changed before

so all done now but i have 2 questions

first after i removed that plastic which covers pollen filter i found it impossible to fit it back the way it was before.nothing is broken or cracked and it seems tight but im just worried that water will leak into car- ( im previous passat owner lol )

second question- on that trim there is a hole which suppose to have something what looks like a plug but thats missing- is that normal? its on picture hereEC9446E3-E52F-42DA-8FD0-AB696B763619_zps11BBDE98-8DCF-4E5B-960F-14BE07B6F79E_zps

the wholes are for the "normal" left hand drive cars and the wipers are mounted in those

ok that explains it then :) thanks mate :)

The hole should have a blanker plate clipped/molded into place for RHD cars.

Your old filter was a carbon filter, the new one isn't, so that explains the difference in colour.  The filter plastic edging should fit back down, check the new filter is seated correctly and have another go.

The scuttle trims need to be tapped down with the palm of your hand using a "committed blow"!

The hardest part is getting the edge of the trim to sit properly behind the bonnet hinge,do that right and they should tap into place! ;-)

I think the old one isn't carbon but just filthy dirty.

I'd agree with that, the carbon ones are darker but not that much

Changed the filter in the boys Vrs on Tuesday and that was grim enough.

no defo not carbon filter, it was same Mahle filter but sooo filthy it was twice as heavy as the new one :/

Nasty!  And all the cabin air is coming through that..

Talking of Carbon Pollen Filters, anybody got a link to them?

I presume all mk1 have the same ones...

I'm reckoning on changing mine out, getting fed up of the smells that still get through the standard one -

Manure... and in particular the smell of wind screen washer fluid... :/

Euro Car Parts. Just put in your reg, search for pollen filters and it comes up with a few choices (normal/carbon and price ranges)

Got a new one from GSF yesterday for £10.56 ;-)

I fitted the MANN activated carbon filter on Friday. Think it was a CUK 2862. Will check later....

The CU 2882 that you fitted is listed as for cars "without air-conditioning system" on the MANN website.

I've had the standard white filter several times before in the car and yeah they do go totally black!

I have noticed my car smells much nicer inside now...

I've changed a few of them in my time.

They came in all different colours from TPS.

White, black and grey lol

I'm still not sure what the deal is on which are which expect the darker ones are carbon filters.

I gave up trying to work it out in the end.

Did you rip your wrists to shreads whilst fitting it ?

The carbon ones are noticably thicker and heavier than the usual thin paper

don't remember the price being hugley different between them, although I probably didn't pay that much attention.

It's a nasty job if you do it without removing the scuttle panel, which I don't think I ever did

Changed mine today, euro car parts £5.70 for standard one, £10.80 for the super duper one...I went for the cheap one...
