Octy Doofed

Featured Replies

Someone ploughed into the back drivers side of the car this morning. Ripped off the rear wheel, the suspension is in bits on the road, someone had to pull the drivers door open for me as it's buckled. The rear pasenger door is gaping too. Pain in right arm, neck shoulder and wrist - so going to see my doctor later. Thinking of making a claim.

The guy that caused the accident was in his 70's. I was sitting stationary indicating right to turn into the car park at work when he overtook me on the right, over double solid white lines. The road has two lanes uphill and one downhill. I was facing uphill, he should have been in the left most lane as it was clear. When I asked for his insurance details, he handed me the forms, because he couldn't read them, or indeed even identify what he had in his hand. He was only concerned about his ****ing golf clubs. I have a witness. Statements were given to the police. The old guy was breathalised and transported away by the police.

Damn crazy old foo.

like I needed this.

sorry to hear that mate, some nasty damage. hope you are ok.

fingers crossed the police sort it all out and the guy gets what he deserves !

 Poor you - and poor Octy :(

Must have been a hell of a shock when it happened - sounds like the other driver shouldn't be on the road.

I can't believe that, bloke was totally in the wrong overtaking you there. Hope you get it sorted. Keep us posted

What an utter frikkin idiot.

You didn't need that - I feel terrible for you. Hope it all gets sorted...

Considering the state of the wheel, the body looks relatively undamaged.

Looks like a pretty clear-cut case anyway, plus you have a witness. Should get sorted out no bother.

He's made a mess of that one for you mate.

I hope you aren't suffering any long lasting pain.

Hiya , wondered if you'd pop back here after this.

I've put some useful information for you in the other place.

I think you were lucky it could have been so much worse, any crash you walk away from is a bonus I say.

If you are in pain I would goto the docs and get it seen to and if he signs you off work then use your legal advice from you insurance to assist in making a claim.

Glad you are ok thought thats the main thing.

Really hope you're OK.

Don't quite know what to make of very old drivers as a simular thing happened to me. Whilst stationary at a set of lights on the North Circular an elderly gents memory decided to fail, he just couldn't remember which pedal was the brake and which was the accelerator. Well he settled on the accelerator and proceeded to push the car behind me in my direction at speed.

yeesh... what a mess! Hope you're ok.... cars are easier fixed than people ;)

One good thing is it looks pretty clear cut who was at fault... hope you get it sorted soon...

old people and cars never really mix, imho...

What r the chances eh? Car looks pretty bad. Wouldn't be surprised if the structural integrity of the car has been affected too. Doesn't take much to write off a car these days.

Scary thing is, the driving test only came in the 30's so there might actually be the odd pensioner out there that never actually did a driving test.

Although, my neighbour is 82 and he keeps up with the best of us.

I like that 4 wheel steering system you've got there!

was gonna say never seen an octi with 4 wheel steering! Lol , hope all is well buddy, not nice haveing injuries after an accident. get well soon :)

Hope all gets sorted soon and that the pain will go away soon

I take it thats the silly old goat in the photo...

I nearly coped for a similar shunt last week I also was waiting to turn right and some acne ridden tw@ in a pug diesel came around the outside of me..just saw him in time.

I would go to A+E to get checked out and get a record of your injury/treatment ..don't take a chance with neck/back injuries. My wife ended up back in A&E with secondary injuries brought about 6 months after someone crashed into the back of her and she had to give up her fulltime job as a result. If I where you I would see about putting in a claim for injury straight away incase anything arises in the future.....It might also force this idiot off the road if it costs his insurance company a bit as they/other companies might not renew his insurance.

Had a similar thing a few years ago.

Old guy in and old style astra coming the opposite direction crossed the middle of the road, hit an Espace in front of us and then ploughed into the Astra coupe I was in.

Not nice.

my photos are here

Hi guys and thanks. No news of whether the octy will be written off or not yet. The insurance company are being total arses as they haven't had an admission of liability from the old duffers insurance company. We needed a car for my mothers funeral on Saturday, :( but they were total C**** about it and refused to supply a car until today!!! This is elephant.co.uk btw. Named and shamed. :thumbdwn:

That is disgraceful. Named and shamed, the *******s.

Just received:

I am pleased to tell you that this claim has not affected your No Claims Bonus.
I assume, the old duffer's in-sewer-ants company have admitted liability now. Their engineers still haven't looked at the garage report though.

Edit:

Balls. I'm driving a 3 door 1.2 Corsa. Wife, two kids that need kiddie seats and they send us a curried beans can. Also, they've given it to us for 2 days. What's the point in that, my wife goes back to work in Edinburgh next week.

Edit:

HA! The admission of liability is in. We are waiting to hear about a better car.

Great.

They're going to repair the car. Just when I'd picked out an '02 vRS as well. :/ I've spoken to the guy that's doing the repairing and he offered to come and pick me up, drive me to the garage and show me what work he will be doing. He's absolutely convinced the car will be fine. I'm still none too happy, but we are proceding with a personal injury claim, because it is a non-fault accident, the insurance company's legal department take it on automatically. Meanwhile we've got a. '05 Reanult Megane 1.6 16v. I'm ripping the tits off it first chance I get.

If your not happy now I doubt you ever will be, I would get if fixed up and sell it then using that money and the money from your injury claim get yourself one of those bargain Octy VRS pre reg's that are around.

make sure you get those injuries checked you could have a bit of whiplash going on there, my wife was hit by some old fool head on at 60 miles an hour last year and ended up in hospital for 3 months we are still going through all the insurance stuff now.take a look at the pic of her car.

Is that a KA?, or whats left of it

Bloody hell. Hope your alright, no long term damage/problems.

elephant.co.uk are right gits. Been trying to get mine sorted for the past 5 going on 6 months.

yeah it was a ka, she is ok now but she dislocated her leg which is not good, leg out of socket and broke pelvis and the pedals came up and went into her knees on both sides down to the bone, so she needed hundreds of stitches, shes doing well now and is back driving again, wait for it another KA
