Mobile Phone help-asap

Featured Replies

Hiya,

just wondering-if i get a PAYG phone with an O2 sim in it, then can i replace that Sim with another one on the same network?

TIA,

Lorna

Usually, yes.

Rob.

I agree.....

helpfully..... :D

IIRC, here in the office Andy changes his phone every 6-8 months (expensive, and he still won't explain why/how) but he's on 02, and they've never been locked on what Sim they'd take......

But like Rob says, shouldn't be a problem, as they're both from the same network. If you can go to the shop though, it's be better - insist on putting the sim in and making sure....or if you have a friend on 02, try it in theirs........

EDIT: Interestingly, I've never had a network locked phone from CarphoneWH.......dunno what that's all about....

but andy uses simless phoens anyway so it woudltn matter to him!!

im on about getting an o2 phoen and then putting another o2 sim in

Works like this

Any pay and go phone is locked to the relevant network

Orange and Tmobile phones are also locked to the network so they can do a less strict credit check on you.

O2 (excluding XDA and X series) and Vodafone (most excluding voda exclusive branded phones) are not locked but they do a more strict credit check. The beauty here is you can upgrade and sell your old phone on easily.

I have got 2 contracts running staggered over the year, one for

I have stuck my T mobile sim into my old O2 Nokia and it works.

I tried sticking the O2 pay as you go into the T mobile motorola V3 and it asks me for codes and all sorts.

Darn

I'm pretty sure the reason they aren't allowed to lock contract handsets is to do with the original agreement for using the 900MHz channel - something which isn't an issue for Orange/T-Mobile as they use 1800MHz...

Rob.

My Voda K750i is locked but then its got Vodafone everywhere. My advice Lorna is that if you have to get one on another network and just take it to the market one weekend, it'll cost about

Lorna, if you want to use an 02 sim in a locked 02 phone it should work, as they are the same network.

Any Vodafone handset i've ever had or known of in the last 2 years (contract or PAYG) has been locked to Vodafone!

PAYG has always been locked, however any voda contract i have had that wasnt voda-branded has been simfree. However i do buy nokia only ;)

Rob you might be right - the information i had was a few years old and from an independant shop in town but may have changed

The information I was thinking back to was older than that - dates back to the days of brick phones... :D

That's true all the phones i've had/seen have been voda branded except for a couple and the users had bought voda sim cards for unlocked phones they already had.

as said above.. O2 dont lock handsets.. voda dont either BUT most of their handsets are voda branded and wont work properly without a re-flash.
