Vrs Performance Springs

Featured Replies

hi,

have noticed that a few people have been fitting lowered springs to their rs's i.e h&r/eibach from regular octavias.is this ok?because surely the springs aren't going to match the rs shocks?not sure about how this will effect handling.could someone shed some light on this as i'm considering fitting some springs, but don't want to if it's going to upset the handling

many thanks:)

Eibach do specific kits for each model, so that they work with the existing setup correctly. So for example, there's a different kit for my TDi than for a standard 1.6 petrol.

I can't comment on H&R.

You might want to do a forum search on KW's. There's been quite a lot posted on them and a few members have them fitted (TaviaRS & ColinD to name two).

Cheers,

It's not just to RS' nat. :D By this weekend I'll have a set on my TDI...

I have just had them fitted to my L&K TDi Estate too!!

Interestingly, the kit is the same on Octavia for petrol or TDi.

John.

I stand corrected!!

(Thanks John)

Although according to Jabba it is a different kit for the vRS. And the estate.

I know that the KW kits differ - also differ between 4x4 & FWD

go for a kw kit..its so much better.....:D

No disagreements there - you just need deeper pockets!! ;)

Or a bigger overdraft

I have to admit I'm with Paul, at least partially - I can never see how changing the springs but not the dampers is going to do the job properly. Shorter stiffer springs will lower the car and force the damper to work differently to how it did before, potentially hitting the bump stops more regularly. In addition the rebound will be faster as the heavier spring overwhelms the softer damper. Of course, the difference between the stock items and the stiffer ones could be minimal, so it wouldn't matter much, but I'd always rather have a matched set.

Nick, I'm with Paul as well. I just don't have the money to buy KWs (they would be my choice based on feedback found here). But the Eibachs have got to be an improvement on the soggy L&K suspension, even with the standard dampers. I wasn't advocating Eibachs as being the best solution, I was just responding to the question that mentioned them. :)

BTW - JayTee's feedback so far on the Eibachs on his L&K is very positive.

I would agree that a matched spring/damper set would be ideal, but I have to say, for the cost of a set of Eibachs, the handling and overall feeling of stability improvement is dramatic - as I have said before, being an L&K it is probably the "best case" improvement, but I think also a very cost effective one + 17" alloys with decent tyres of course!

I guess also, it depends on how you use the car as well, mine is for everyday business use, sometimes loaded, so ultimate handling is not the issue.

John.

I'd go with that John. Mine's not a performance car, and (much as I'd like to) I'm not going to be throwing it round a track. All I'm after is something to make the handling safer and more predictable. I've only got 110 bhp under my right foot. Just trying to figure out when I can get a day off for a visit to Crowland at the moment....

I wonder how the Eibach springs compare with the stock VRS ones ..... hmmmm

Nick, according to Brian @ Jabbasport there is a matched set for the vRS. he said that they were having difficulty getting hold of the vRS ones as they were in short supply. There seem to be a number of different part numbers for the Octy, so I guess they must be matched in some way to the other suspension settings (i.e. dampers etc.).

good question that, Nick - I reckon that my springs would be stiffer than the ones that will be fitted to the Fabia vRS - IMHO - but I'd like to be proved wrong. :D

Might have to investigate - will leave it a while while I test out the capabilities of the stock VRS suspension first ... it's probably stiff enough for me as it is now.
