Control system for exhaust orange warning light come on

Featured Replies

the orange warning light which looks like an engine block has come on.

Manual says "engine management system selects an emergency programme which enables you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of driving"

Problem is, being easter everything is shutting and on monday I'm supposed to be driving to Manchester  for a funeral coming  back on tues.

What do you think. if i can't get it into a garage tomorrow is it safe to drive on mon/tue

thanks

The fault could be one of a dozen different things. The only recommendation is to take it straight to a garage. The car will be very slow if it's gone into a limp home mode. Could be dangerous on a motorway and such like.

Can Skoda Assist help in any way? It needs its fault code(s) checked to determine the cause of the fault.

I had a fault on my car once but it went away after turning the ignition off and it never reappeared.

Thanks....

I managed to get thru to the dealer this morning and as the car is still under warranty they said ring Skoda assist. Have done so and waiting for them to come.

if they haven't arrived by 1.30 I'll have to take the missus's car to the big one at Villa Park

DGW .... thanks for that link.... not sure what that's all about. VCDS??

How does that work

It is a diagnostic scan of your car to determine what is wrong

Basically they will plug a laptop in to your cars OBD port (looks like a scart socket)

They will then run a scan and see what faults show up

Hopefully then you will know the cause for the light on, and a cure

Most likely it's a sensor or similar if the car is that new. I had the same issue before and it was an EGR valve which is exhaust related but doesn't affect driving really. Is there any drop in performance/response from engine etc?  Obviously best to have it checked out of course

Skoda assist man arrived. Plugged in laptop. Fault showed up. Quite a bit of smoke coming out of exhaust, Seemed to take an extra turn when starting up. Drove car to local dealer who will look at it wednesday.  Skoda assistance will be dropping me a hire care tomorrow so I can drive up to Liverpool for me cousins funeral

The only europecar office open on monday was at BHX, and they don't deliver. So they sent a taxi and took me to the airport. They gave me a lovely Octavia. Brilliant service.

The drive to Liddypool and back was a dream. Like the six speed box and cruise control. Used less than half a tank  there and back going via Stockport to pick up bro.

hopefully they'll sort mine out tomorrow

I've just had the same warning come on enroute to Barcelona airport, just got home after driving 200 miles and noticed no drop off in performance. Another 40 miles to the dealer as soon as he can take it in.

Pulled the car out of the garage this morning, light still on. Switched off to lock the garage door and on starting again light went out! Spoke to the garage and they said don't bother coming in as the computer will only log an event and not give any answers. They need the light on, so hope it's a long wait!

update on mine.......

Rang wed late. They said it needs a new fuel pump.

Rang friday late.... They're still waiting for it to arrive.

Luckily I can keep the hire car as long as necessary, allthough I'm not using it as I've got use of OH's Clio

Helipilot.... do you live N or S of Barcelona? We like the Costa Brava a lot.

Hi Richard,

Did they say which fuel pump you need?

Thanks ...

Richard, we live north of Barcelona where we have the best of the beaches and mountains.

Robbo... they never said. Is there more than one?

Heli.... Sounds Fab. We had a few days in Barcelona before and after a cruise ealier this year which we liked a lot.

We've stayed at Lescala, LLoret, Tossa and my first ever foreign hol in the 60s was to San Felieux.

I've hears of a little place called Tamiru which sounds nice... do you know it?

Hi Richard,

Yes there are at least two. One in the fuel tank (called the lift pump, not very expensive) and one in the engine (high pressure diesel pump, very expensive). Possibly an auxiliary pump between these two (I've had this fail on a BMW I owned in the past) but I'm not sure if VW use this set up ... I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself can inform you.

Either way, best of luck and keep us posted on your results ...

Cheers,

Rob

Richard,

Yes Tamariu, we often go there on a Sunday for a drink and read the Sunday paper. It's a very nice small beach with quite a few restaurants.

Is your car a 1.8TSI?

Oh I didn't realise your car might be petrol ...

Yes Car is Petrol

Got it back now.

They said they'd fitted a "high pressure pump".

I asked if that was common for a car just over two years old.

He said he'd never come across it before.

With the £3.2 body work repair and this job, I was without the car for a month give or take.

Was getting withdrawal symptoms

Service throughout from Skoda Assist was fab.

Is your car a 1.8TSI?

Yes Dennis I think it is.

What does the text below your question all mean?

Do you mean my signature? If so, all members can add one via My Profile. Mine gives brief details of my 2 cars and also shows that I am a VCDS owner. More details of the latter can be found on Ross-Tech's website.
