Does anyone know if the coil springs from VW Golf 4 1.9 tdi are suitable for Octavia MK1 same engine?

Car is weighted differently. If the coloured spots on the springs are the same sequence then yes. Failing that, I wouldn't recommend it.

They will "fit" but the ride will suffer... (unless they are the same weights as said above)

 

but anyone who has fitted correctly weighted golf springs / coilovers,

all say that it drops the back end more than the front, and it makes the front look way too high....

I wouldn't imagine massive differences in the sprung weights - enough that i would consider using them.  The rears on the octavia might be rated slightly higher as potentially the rear end weighs a little more on an octy hatch compared to a shorter golf?
