New vrs on track?

Featured Replies

Has anyone been on track with their new vrs yet?

I had an evening session at brands yesterday and loved it.

Quite a bit of body roll from the 4x4 suspension, my 57 vrs had h&r springs and rear arb so felt a load stiffer.

The laps were around the 1:01/1:05 mark. Was having some good racing with an integra dc05 but he was running slicks on the front which was a bit unfair compared to my contis.

Was on track for about 2 hours and it didn't miss a beat, the diff doesn't quite put the power down like a gti does but providing you feed it in smoothly and take the right line its fine.

Everyone I took out seemed shocked how well it goes on track for a "family car".

Anyone else got any track time planned?

I'll definitely be planning a trip to Brands as it's my nearest track. Funnily enough I was looking at some track tyres last night.

Keep an eye on the track day section as a few of us like to organise a track day at brands.

119 for an evening session at brands is a bit steep though, plus 75 quid of fuel it managed to use in 2 hours.

I will have a browse, didn't realise there was a track day section

Some of us from the general sections go to Brands now and then.

Been there twice in the last two months and am back on the 12th May.

You should come down when some of us are there. :)

Just as a hint, you might want to keep it quiet that you have been on the track.

There was an instance of Skoda refusing a warranty claim for a new engine on a MkII vRS as the owner had been doing 1/4 miles at Santa Pod. Totally unrelated to the subsequent timing chain failure, but it is in the smallprint of your warranty .......................................

Then again they did leave a business card of the photographer from Santa Pod who put photo's of the car doing the 1/4 mile on his website in the car when it went in to the dealer, so the guy could hardly deny it!

When I said I was definitely planning a trip to Brands what I actually meant was I was definitely not planning a trip to Brands ;)

I do a few track evenings at Brands each year and have booked for next Wednesday 7th May, I tend to pop in on way back home from the office.

I did one a couple of weeks ago, the first dry one for ages, and the car (mark 2) performed brilliantly against other much more track focused cars tho a Caterham R400 that kept lapping me was a bit out of my league!

In respect of times for the Indy circuit the record lap is held by a Boss F1 car which lapped at 38 seconds so we all have a bit of catching up to do.

Beware if the track is wet it is mega slippery, so much more so than the public roads!

I forgot to say my car was actually on a trailer going round!!

Any way to get out of things that have gone wrong, I'm sure they could bend it and say i can void the warranty from going on the autobahn and hitting the 155 mark

I wonder where Skoda tests the 0-62 times they publish within every models brochure? If they advertise 0-62 in 6.8 secs, you are surely allowed to verify their figures, irrespective of the car being driven on public or private roads. I know a chap who's Subaru let go at Cadwell on a members track day. His dealer fixed it without quibbling under warranty, even though the exhaust, brakes and intakes had been modified.

Don't shoot the messenger! Just posted what had happened to someone else.

Moral of the story is don't post pictures of your car being driven on a track, then leave evidence pointing to said pictures in the car when you take it to the dealers for a new engine under warranty LOL

That OK then, I didn't want to pay the 5 quid or whatever it was for a pic anyway.

After 1000 miles there is major scoring in my 2 front discs, but its only going back for the annoying sunglass holder rattle and the interior lights haven't lasted a month. See if they notice the molten rubber all over the car.

I wasn't doubting you, just pointing out how petty manufacturers can be sometimes. They sell a car based upon it's performance and then restrict owners use of that performance. It's like buying a mountain with a clause that it can only be used on hills of a certain size.

You can buy a mountain?!
