Otaylor38,

Very easy to do, remove the rear bumper, remove 25 KG of nicely manufactured and designed weights,

non rusting fastners,

I always wonder how much expense Skoda want to, 25 KG of material is expensive,

rather than just fitting better springs and dampers.

Is it just a kind of filler or cement based product? It sounds quite dangerous for anyone who decides to go into the back of you...

Edit: just seen your photo George.

  • I also drive a Fiesta and I agree with your comment about the cabin - the Fabia feels much roomier. I think the Fiesta having less glass space has something to do with it.

Pics now in the post above yours.

Would you recommend doin it mate?

25kg is a fair bit, especially that far over the back of the car, i guess.

Wow. Thats not what i was expecting at all.

So far over the left side of the car too. Hmm. I'm confused as to why it needs to be that far over?

Because right hand drive cars are heavier on the right.

They are weights to balance the car for Mr Average driver.

But on a left hand drive the driver is on the left, the steering wheel on the left obviously,

the weights on the right,

the exhaust on the left. Just as in the UK.  But then its just Weight.

Every Car Manufacturer is fighting to save weight, going for low emissions,

leaving out spares, spending on weight saving.

Skoda puts on 25 KG of ballast.

& publish EU Testing and put the Hatch in a higher VED Band than the still heavier Polo, & A1.

(Must just have been the smaller standard 205 tyres that made the Skoda have higher emissions at Testing)

With the supposedly better Handling/Riding/Ballanced Polo GTI,  VW put the Battery in the boot,

& would sell you a Battery Cover and a Spare Wheel to sit over it.

(& there was a 3 Door Polo GTI only and when the 5 door arrived it was going to be 25 kg heavier.)

It was given the same VED as the 3 door, lower than the vRS.

Vorsprung Durch Technik.

But most cars dont use a ballast to counter act the steering stuff n the driver.

Before, i thought it had them because if shocks n dampers, but other cars dont have different rate suspension units for the left and right do they?

Am i getting this completely wrong?

I might just leave it as it is haha

Ford & Leasing sites i see for the uk are showing a 10 kg difference,

eg

3 door 1,091 kg

same spec 5 door 1,101 kg

The Feb 2014 Brochure and the downloadable e brochure from Ford.co.uk shows 5kg?
