Brake Availabilty

Featured Replies

What upgrade choices are available for the MKII VRS? Also best places & prices please?

Phil.

Cntuning are breaking a Leon Cupra R in the for sale section

Four pot Brembo brakes that bolt straight on to the car, run with 323mm discs and give incredible stopping power.

Expect to pay £400-500 for a full set and then later on upgrade the discs and pads and the car will take on most challenges.

I put mine through some serious heat yesterday at Combe and once my Redstuffpads bedded in, they were epic.

Reading abit in the combe and the awesome gti rolling road threads, you seemed really pleased with the stoping power, do they give you a good pedal feel though and have you left the rears as standard?

Standard rears and no balance issues.

Once the ceramic pads had felt some heat, I genuinely could not have asked for any more stopping power, the Brembo's were spot on and well ahead of my tyres. Pedal feel was firm but tonnes of feel for modulation.

I got lucky to drop on a set with a really good condition 12 month old powder coating too, so they look the nuts too. But the pads I got were stock Pagid's and the discs were wrong sized and had to be replaced. With a £500 budget I would expect a bolt on kit, good to run.

A firm pedal with feel is very important, my standard brakes are possibly good enough for a car with 100bhp but not the vrs.

There are a few options depending on spend etc.

Cupra R brembo's as mentioned

If looking for a cheaper option 312mm upgrade?

I had the Leon set upon my MKI and they were spot on. Might have a look at that set up again. Will all model year Brembos fit?

Get the Brembo's before they are gone :)

Mk4 platform fits our cars.

Or go for some good fluid and pads, Dave (Sharkrider) made the stock calipers work to brutal effect on track with Yellowstuffpads in.

I'll buy some on work and use them for research and development, i need a project to save me from the crap tv swmbo watches every night. Good fluid is also very important as you say and braided lines are a must have on my list as well.

Mk4 Setup required for your upgrade

We fitted LCR to mk1 Fabia a few weeks ago, yes they were an excellent upgrade. But overkill for what the car was, ie stage 1 map, never tracked!

Anything thats uses the Golf mk4 platform brakes gti etc then you can change the fronts for the 312mm then move you original fronts on to the back. This has been done by a member but cannot remember who

I suggest the cheaper option too as AP suggested. All VAG parts, 312mm up front and 256mm at the back with some good pads will be more than enough.

Stage 1 Fabia mapped is 160-170bhp.

Stock Mk2 Fabia vRS is 180ps if CAVE, could be as much as 195bhp if CTHE.

Stage 1 over 210bhp.

For road I can't see why 312mm would be a major upgrade on 288mm as long as pads and fluids were done.

I don't fancy anyone would regret the Brembo's, but some of the Mk1 guys who have gone for over 200bhp have said they might fancy more than the 312's especially for track.

This was my old set up on my MKI VRS running 258bhp & 355lbs ft. Worked a treat.

Front Brembo GT Callipers with Seat Leon Cupra R 323mm Discs & Tarox pads

Rear Audi S3 Callipers with new Pagid fast road pads

Rear-Tarox 2 piece Bells & Rotors with Sport Japan 308mm Discs

Hey, give this link a read

im tempted to do a 334mm MK4 R32 front brake conversion on my VRS as they are cheap compared to the Seat Sport brakes.

What options have people got for the rears?

Not sure if there is a whole lot for the rears beyond 256mm vented's from various Mk4 platform cars.

im sure for me that will be more than enough! the link i added to my post only covers front conversions, so now that i know 256mm fit i will do a search for those :) thanks

GB Automotive have a nice ebay store with fully refurbed 312mm and 256mm setups.

I will give that a look now, cheers! i was dreading buying a used unknown condition set of calipers and having to rebuild them!

Have you got a link to their ebay? i can only find a car sales company.

here are a set of their 312mm's

Dark Hero bought some for his Mk1 and said they were great, lovely powdercoat.  As new.

wait, so, you're telling me i could get a complete front break upgrade using 100% new/referb parts for less than £300?!!

I could then sell mine possibly as they're new, done around 1000 motorway miles max! (is there a market for my kit which i currently have??)

would i need new lines if i were to go ahead with the above?

Think you should be ok with lines, best check with the seller.

But yes, you could have an "as new" set of 312mm fronts as a full kit for that price. Seller also quoted me on uprated pads to go in there, very competitive.

I can also vouch for this company. I bought some lovely green 312mm fronts for my MK1 VRS. They were brand new looking. Even the garage fitting them for me were impressed.

The brakes were brilliant. Unless you are heavily track driving on a regular basis I know a set of these would be perfect with good pads, discs and fluid. I never took my MK1 on a track but I can confirm they were blooming good compared to the standard setup on the road.
