Octavia mk2 grill wrap

Featured Replies

I know this has been touched on before by others and some are old posts just wanted to put this up as vinyl wrapping has come on leaps and bounds in the last year. Thanks for everybody's input and ideas here's what I done with mine hope it's liked.post-109257-0-85072900-1399049492_thumb.jpg

Looks great! I have a black vrs and would like my chrome grill painted or wrapped. I have lots of questions, but can you post a step by step guide please because I would like to have a go?

Can you include where you bought the wrap from and how much it cost?

Also, is it removable for when it comes to resale time?

Many thanks

The wrapping is very easy you just need to take your time.

First step is to pop grille off. From memory there is a coupled screw located in the top side under the bonnet as well as some tab clips.

Separating the chrome from te black central party is a pig. It's stuck on with so many sticky pads I worked my way round using a long Stanley blade slicing the sticky pads in half this releasing the chrome part but be careful there is many clios around the edges and are easily snapped off.

Next part it is clean the chrome section with some alcohol wipes or similar and leave to dry.

Get some decent vinyl I used 3M carbon stuff and the size was 1500mm x 600mm which was more than enough.

Peel the backing off the vinyl and place the chrome section face down sticking the vinyl down on one edge. Using a heat gun heat the vinyl and stretch it around bends and curves being careful not to burn or tear it. It's quite easy but require time. I took 3 hours to so mine.

Once all edges are done check for bubbles and use a small pin to pop it and smooth out.

And then admire your work and put back on car

I'm sure someone else will offer more input but I found patience was key and decent vinyl and a small craft heat gun worked a treat.

Vinyl was from eBay was less than £15 and to answer is it removable. Yes it is. Just peel it off slowly using heat if required.

Looks great.

Think the New style Skoda badge would match that a treat

Jon boy sorry for late reply been away working, unlike gregie I wasn't brave enough to do it myself I imported a grill and stripped it like gregie has said be careful taking the grill apart from the chrome. Holding your grill in is t20 I think it was screw and then use a 6mm socket bit to pop the plastic clips in from the underside of the metal work. I got a vinyl wrapping company to do mine monster wraps.

Nice grill there gregie looks sweet your clearly better with vinyl and a heat gun than me

The good thing with vinyl is if you make a mistake you can just peel it back and start again. Took me over 3 hours to do it but the result was worth it.

The hardest part is the separation between the two parts. Too much force and you will crack the chrome piece.

After reading this, now not sure if I'm brave enough to have a go. I might get a price for a vinyl wrapping company to do it for me. As long as its not too expensive, it might be the wiser option!

If anyone travels local to West Yorkshire I can do this, 3m/avery approved with 8 yrs experience. Jon

I'm based in Birmingham and am not travelling as far north as W Yorks this year otherwise I would ask you for a quote. If this changes I will definitely pm you.

Is it wrapping the grille or removing it that

You're unsure of? You could maybe find a cheap second hand chrome section and sent it to redders for wrapping and swap them over?

I would be ok removing the grill its just the wrapping.

Redders, how much will the wrapping cost including return postage if I sent the grill surround to you as gregie suggests?
