Mudflaps - keep or remove?

Featured Replies

My VRS estate came with these on. Never really been a fan of flaps in general and is on my list of things to do something with.

I only really do town driving with the odd trip up north to the slopes in the winter or tot he beach for the surf.

What's the verdict?

Its the first things i fitted when i got mine and have fitted them to every car before aswell,

I think they just help to protect the sills and front wings from stone chips and stops it throwing road dirt up side of car

I'd much rather keep them, but if you don't want flog them, usually someone on here who is after a set

Keep fronts and ditch rears

Fronts protect the arches and sills no end

I was thinking of removing my rears. Not sure if I like them or not. Never had mudflaps before on any car. Certainly wouldn't put them on. Iv seen many rotted front wings from the brackets on front mudflaps. Along with a lack of maintenance.

You will probably find the front flaps have damaged the paint I know they have on mine.

For some reason mine never had front flaps

They came from factory with rears but not fronts i believe

I took rears of now anyway :)

Do you have to take the wheels off to get at them?

Nice one. Will give the rears a go!

I know its a personal choice thing and the flaps for the Octy are not the best at deflecting the crud but I saw in my local paper last week that the county council will be doing lots of 'surface dressing' this year as they see it as 'good value for money' Many who suffer chipped or broken windscreens as a result will no doubt disagree (dashcam evidence might help in claiming from council?) But it might be worth seeing if they are doing it round your area too as the loose chippings that go hand in hand with this process won't do your car any favours.

Cheers
