New vrs question (traffic sign recognition)

Featured Replies

Picked up vrs tsi on Thursday so still learning but can't figure out how to enable traffic speed sign reconigtion on dash, contacted dealer but they seem to think it doesn't have this facility. Been reading this forum whilst have have been waiting for delivery and to be fair seems to be more knowledgable here than dealers.

Rich....

No Octavia in the UK comes with Traffic Sign Recognition as standard.

It can be enabled, but results in a warning on the dash every time you start the car.

Who can enable this function as I found it quite useful on my c class, any help much appreciated.

Rich....

I thought it could be enabled without startup errors providing you had lane assist and columbus?

Nope. You still get the warning about restricted functionality.

The method I posted in this post results in the error on models with Columbus as well.

There is extra coding to enable the navigation map speed limit data to merge with the lane assist camera data. I haven't found how to do it yet, as I don't have a Lane Assist camera so can't spend time experimenting.

You need someone with VCDS - look here.

Aha! ok good to know thanks Andyvee :)

If no Octavia in the UK has it as standard, why is it in the Owner's Manual? I should be collecting my Elegance next week and I'm expecting it to have it as standard.

You will be disappointed then! Have you specced Lane Assist as an option as well? If not, you don't even have the necessary camera for Traffic Sign Recognition.

There are lots of things in the owners manual that you won't have, has the dealer given you the impression you get Traffic Sign Recognition?

It's generic manual that covers all specs and options, like it covers manual and DSG transmissions, doesn't mean you get both..... It even has the auxiliary heater covered and that's not available at all in the UK.

What about if you have lane assist and amundsen?

I have Amundsen and Lane assist (didn't pay for it, but the car seems to have it installed), and it does show traffic signs - speed limits on the nav screen.

Does that count as sign recognition? Or is it just doing it via the sat-nav?

That's from the map data on the sat nav.

Perhaps I mistakingly thought the camera that provides Intelligent Light Assistance was the same camera that would provide the Traffic Sign Recognition!

A quick look at the January 2014 brochure shows that Lane Assist is standard on the VRS. In the Factory Fitted Optional Extras section, it states that the VRS has Bi-Xenon, AFS and LED DRLs, cornering fog lights & Light Assistant. Is "Light Assistant" a mistake, should it state Lane Assistant? If so, it appears that Lane Assistant is not available on the Elegance. Is this true?

I think this is why I thought I was getting Lane Assistant with Traffic Sign Recognition. I will have the columbus.

Light Assistant is just automatic lights, nothing more.

So is Lane Assist not available, even as an option on Elegance? Can't see it in the brochure.

Anyone got Lane Assist on anything but a VRS? How did you get it?

Lane Assist is no longer available as an option, it's only standard on the vRS (in the UK).

And the L&K :)

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

Has any one experimented with activating high beam assist (HBA) on a car that doesn't have it from the factory? I have lane assist so I have the camera.

I have tried enabling it through some of the coding / adaptation and I can get the menu to appear on screen but I just get a "high beam assist error" come up when I activate it in the menu.

Looking through the gateway list I see a module for it potentially, are we missing a physical HBA controller or do you think this could be enabled through coding / adaptations alone?

I have tried this as well - I think there are some extra tweaks that need enabling. AFAIK you don't need an extra module, it is all to do with the adaptations and coding of Central Electronics, Infotainment, Instruments, Steering Wheel Controller (potentially) and CAN Gateway.

I did spot a setting the other day that looked like it would remember the previous state - so if you had it enabled when you turned the car off it would be enabled when you next go tin to the car. At the moment, you have to turn it on each time you start the car.

Doesn't help you out, but I'll have a dig through the settings again at the weekend - can't remember if it was on instruments, steering controller or central electronics now!
