New car guilt

Featured Replies

Had one member of staff of one of my customers tell me on Friday afternoon that "I'm obviously earning far too much money".

I'd have gone "Obviously more than you.. Whaay..!!"  :moon:

That probably makes me a bad person but I tend not to respond well to snidy, unimaginative comments..

Thing is nowadays people will resent you just for for being able to buy your own food without scrounging of parents or governments.. I had someone tell me once I was lucky to have a good job and career prospects, to which my response was "do you have any idea how much hard work it took to get it..?

There is this assumption by some that anyone who is even remotely successful got there by luck or accident. The same people who expect opportunity's to be gifted to them on a silver platter, not realizing it requires getting of your backside and putting in hard graft..

Mini rant over, don't feel guilty man this isn't a communist state, you worked hard to get where you are and thus you're entitled to spend your earnings on whatever you see fit.. If people feel the need to resent you for it, that's their problem not yours..

  • I'd say "Nah; it's a Skoda. I need to charge you more". Self deprecation is king as a Skoda owner.

  • I'm 17 my first car was a Fabia! All my mates were making Skoda jokes until they realised just how good it was. The jokes didn't bother me particularly as I knew I was saving a lot of money by driving

  • Seriously though, why are you bothered? As I get older (I'm 33!) I care less and less what people think. You obviously work for your money - so it's your choice how you spend it surely?

Been having a poke around under the bonnet of mine today and noticed just how bits have an Audi or VW logo on them. And as for getting stick for buying one, yours isn't yellow...

Yellow is rebellious. :D

I likes yellow.

Same thing happened to me, I like to keep my car washed and clean at all times if I can!

I got into work one morning and my new store manager parked up in his 04 Laguna, at the same time I was collecting my laptop etc out of my boot and closed it.

I closed my boot and all I heard was your paid too much! I hadn't even met the guy yet and he's telling me that I'm paid too much?

I just smiled and said well it's only a Skoda. I still thought to myself what??! I've had a few customers say he's on enough with his fancy BWM! I still have to correct them, as soon as they hear Skoda they seem to like me again.

But I think it's the same when you look after your car and it's clean they still think you're being paid too much what ever it could be. I got over it now, and I keep telling my manager what I'm looking for next now! :P

Yep, same sort of problem. We recently bought an MX-5, not an expensive car but obviously a two seater sports car so can be considered an indulgence ( it is, it's our 25th wedding anniversary present to ourselves). Predominantly the wife drives it, and to some people she just has to say that she has come into some money to stop them going on about it as she has two cars.

Posted on the Superb section......someone looking at the back of my car from a short distance and said to me this morning..."you bought yourself a Merc then'?   :o

Have Skoda's really come that far, or was he just a dope in need of urgent attention at Specsavers?  :D

Its good in a way that they are classed as something more than what they actually are.... Next time you see a c class owner i wonder what their face would be like if you jokingly said that'd a nice Skoda!

You could always say

"I would've got the Audi, but you insist on never paying your invoices on time" ;)
