Fitting new Fabia Clutch

Featured Replies

Hello folks, hope to be fitting a new standard spec Sachs clutch, flywheel and CSC this weekend.  Just a couple of questions though if anyone could offer help/advice?

1)Does anyone happen to have the torque settings for the flywheel and pressure plate bolts?

2)Do you 'really' need a self adjusting clutch fitting tool to do the job, or can it simply be bolted up?

Cheers for any advice folks.

Cheers

Jacko

Some of the kits come ready built up all together in the box.

Otherwise not really... It's just alot easier with it, if it's slightly off 1mm it could be a nightmare wriggling about with a big heavy 6 speed box!

No, It's not built up, it's not so much the alignment of the centre spline, but more the fact the tool is supposed to set the auto adjustment properly before refitting the gearbox.  I've never used one in the past, but then the last clutch I did was on an MX5! :-)

Cheers

Hey jacko 2111 I have access to autodata if you know the age and engine code of your fabia I will try and get the torque settings for you, as for the fitting tool as hutchy said its not a necessity, if you can get it all to line up by eye then usually with a little jiggery pokery you can do it :-)

Flywheel/drive plate 60Nm+ 90 degree

clutch to flywheel 22Nm

Not really necessary but if you've not done one before it's worth using it to save lifting the gearbox out after you've lifted it in. I normally use a half inch extension to get it central, but I've done a few.

Good luck, those 6 speed boxes are heavy!

I fitted my sachs setup a few weeks back. You can line it up by eye but probably easier to use a alignment tool if you've not done many before because as said the box is REALLY heavy. My advice is remove the starter don't just tuck it to the side as I had to hold the box while my mate took the starter off as it was in the way - not fun!! Also don't be surprised if it slips when you've fitted it, mine slipped really bad until about 70 miles and wasn't fully bedded in until I'd done about 800 miles. Just mentioning it as I was panicking it was a duff clutch

Cheers folks for the advice, much appreciated!  Got a mate doing it for me now(as I have 3 young daughters and very little spare tie :-)).  I'll pass on the info.  Cheers

OK, clutch changed fine..... BUT, and just before doing the clutch it started making an awful thumping noise, almost feels like a misfire.  I was hoping it was just the DMF well out of balance, but it's still doing it.  I've heard it could be the injector wiring loom perhaps?  But what's confusing me is, if I remove the breather pipe connection off the intake just after the MAF I've got positive pressure and what looks like diesel is being blow out!!!! (This is on the intake pipe not the cam cover).  I'm starting to wonder if the cam belt may have jumped a tooth and the timings all over the place.  Any ideas folks?

I think from watching and listening to clips on youtube, it sounds very much like my cam may have munched through a follower.  Anyone know of a trusted supplier of a decent standard cam, followers, bearing etc?

Cheers

Why don't you take the rocker cover off first and check it? PD130's rarely eat through tappits.

That's my next step when I summon up enthusiasm for the damn thing. :-)  Can you see much though without removing the injector rockers?  I'm half tempted with breaking the damn thing for spares!!!

:-)

Oh yeah mean't to say, got the RAC to recover it home from my old dears, as I didn't want to risk wrecking it any more than it already is. and his conclusion was maybe a broken inlet valve or spring, as it's somehow pressurising the inlet tract.

Yep, had the cam cover off, cam has munched through No.1 exhaust follower, new camshaft kit I guess!  Any recommendations? Nothing too expensive, I have 3 kids to feed..... :D

I got a "British gaskets" one last time I replaced it, same manufacturer as a lot of water pumps and gaskets I've used to years so in the middle of cheap budget and pro race kit!
