  • It always makes me smile when people who haven't got a petrol VRS TSI make comments like warmish performance, or rose tinted glasses or looked in awe,.............obviously these people haven't spent

  • Cracking times for the S3, though the TSI engine is a peach in any guise, best gps verified time I've in my stock VRS is 5.6, old tyres with no grip!! Now I've got my Goodyears on, let's see,....do to

  • Skoda will NEVER be allowed any AWD system to be matched up to a performance engine... Too much of a competitor for Audi and VW. Probably the same reason why SEAT havent got a AWD performance model ei

Hopefully hear something soon. I'm curious

Not bored of your S3 already are you Kenny :-)

Must admit, I'm curious, especially after seeing the 276bhp TSI engine will feature in the 2015 Passat along with a new bi turbo diesel with 237bhp and 4x4!!!! Although us phase 1 boys should be happy if APR release their 325bhp stage 1 map ;-)

Hmm this could be the Mk3 to wait for :)
Though I already have 400Nm, ~270bhp and a mechanical LSD in my Mk1. Plus more lightness.

They'll be rare as rocking horse poo here also. Maybe a second-hand one in 2019 when my car turns 15... :D

Not at all tbh, love octy but S3 wins. Just be nice to see them offer something a bit more exciting! :)

Very true, just can't see Skoda being allowed to have a VRS R as it were, after all I'd have that over the Golf R any day of the week.

?...... after all I'd have that over the Golf R any day of the week.

Why? Unless space is the priority - the Golf will always be the better car as VAG will always ensure it is better than the equivalent Skoda, same as they have with the current Golf GTI v Octavia vRS

Yeah, I don't see any brand reason why Skoda wouldn't be allowed to have a vRS 'R'. They have a 'GTI' after all. People won't just suddenly ditch VW for Skoda. Why keep up with the Jones' when you can be the Jones'.

As with everything, that is a matter of opinion and after owning 2 x VW GTI's, I'm confident that the VRS is the better car!

Plus for me, space is a priority as is having one car that can do everything.

I also see VW have announced the detail of the latest Passat (version 8), you will be able to spec that with a bi turbo diesel (237bhp & 369flbt) with haldex and the petrol version (I believe without haldex) will be available in either 217 or 276 bhp guise.

With this in mind, it makes me think Skoda will be allowed to play in the VRS R arena at some stage,...JUST my opinion of course!

Never know mate, hope we do see one as it might be my next car :) space may be more of an issue in a few years so never know.

I like the S3, not perfect but what car is! And for what I need it does the job.

To get an octy with same 4wd and power would be very nice indeed as it gives that extra space. Someone timed the s3 the other day and it's clocking 4.3 to 60 so similar in an octy is just silly when u think about it.....silly gd! Q car indeed :)

I think remaps will transform feel of engine too. All gd mate

..........Don't get me wrong everyone wants a practical car with the performance of a Ferrari and the price of a punto, but its not going to happen........

Reading some of the rose tinted comments here I think some believe the current vRS is already fits that description!

Too true. Always makes me smile to read stories of how other car drivers "looked on in awe as I flew past" type scenarios!

Quality car, but for me it's more about boot size, family friendly and 'warmish' performance (including the petrol version) than anything else.

44 and never learnt to read correctly. Enjoy your vRS, it's a cracking car as mentioned.

Go on admit it, you guys are really hoping that this "hot" vRS happens so you can take on BossFox's Yeti next track day :)

Those pictures of the Yeti on track were brilliant.

It always makes me smile when people who haven't got a petrol VRS TSI make comments like warmish performance, or rose tinted glasses or looked in awe,.............obviously these people haven't spent time in the new mk3 VRS TSI and I mean proper time, not just a 5 minute test drive!

To me 0-60 in 5.6 isn't warmish and all my measurements were done with a VBOX GPS timer so I don't believe my opinions are rose tinted either. I'm also 44, not 20 and have driven lots of fairly high powered cars in my life, some over 400bhp and most over 300bhp, so I am quite capable of comparing to these other cars and giving a fair comparison as to how good the VRS is.

The VRS (after coming form many quoted top hot hatches) is a cracking motor that ticks so many more boxes than anything I've had before. Sorry for those that don't want to believe it.

Now I'm off to drive my VRS TSI down the motorway whilst wearing my rose tinted glasses and ensuring I look in awe as I pass all the Nissan GTR's  :D

Where can you find dealer that will let you have a decent test drive?

So far I've not found the new Octavia to be as good as I/we expected, but 2/3 hours in a car on roads that I know well would allow me to make a reasoned judgement.

Sorry my bad, got a letter wrong in terms of my statement, must be my age, getting in to my senior years now....however the principal of what you were saying was the same,...oh and I will enjoy my VRS thanks driving past other drivers while they look on in awe  :D

Not a chance, that Yeti has like a trillion BHP  :D

Have a word with Skoda UK to see if they can find a dealer that will allow a longer test drive.

Meadens down South allowed me 2 test drives, one for 1 hour and the second for over 2 hours, however I was made up in the first hour to be fair and after living with the car  for nearly 11k miles, I'm so pleased with the decision.

By the way guys, please remember my comments here are merely my opinion with the odd fact thrown in, what floats my boat for example won't do anything for others.

In a nut shell, I think VAG have a peach of an engine in the TSI with loads of scope for future application and what's better still is that they are also now developing the VR6 engine for the latest Passat so future driving looks like it will only get better,..........

Love hate topic at its best :) I have a TSi engine so best hide ;)
