  • It always makes me smile when people who haven't got a petrol VRS TSI make comments like warmish performance, or rose tinted glasses or looked in awe,.............obviously these people haven't spent

  • Cracking times for the S3, though the TSI engine is a peach in any guise, best gps verified time I've in my stock VRS is 5.6, old tyres with no grip!! Now I've got my Goodyears on, let's see,....do to

  • Skoda will NEVER be allowed any AWD system to be matched up to a performance engine... Too much of a competitor for Audi and VW. Probably the same reason why SEAT havent got a AWD performance model ei

Biggest problem with the Octaiva vRS is there's always been to many Special Editions, seems they just do it for any excuse.  Won't be long before the normal ones are the rare ones.....

Would be nice to actually get one with some proper power though as opposed to one with a couple of extra bits of trim/equipment/tat though!

shouldve made it AWD tho ... not as desirable as it should be

That'll never happen imo - this is just Skodas equivalent of Seat's Cupra, not a halo model for the group overall as per the S3 and Golf R.

Wow, 280HP through one front wheel (I bet it doesn't get the LSD either), I bet it will drive great.

Skoda could get away with selling an AWD one, but it would have to be a limited run.

Yes power is what Vrs should be about, I bet there's still a thread on here about what mpg it gets.....

May get the limited slip diff though perhaps

And if they do. There will be a thread about MPG from the 280 bhp version ;oP

I'm going to start a thread asking 1.2 owners to post their best 0 to 60 times

Seems utter speculation to me, but if true they should sort out build delays for existing models before launching new ones. Most companies release Special Editions well into a products life cycle to drum up extra sales. I guess however that this will be a mere profiteering exercise as sales of existing models already outstrip supply.

If you want a ~280bhp VRS TSI DTUK can supply a tuning box for less than £500, and APR will be able to offer full ECU remaps within 4-6 weeks.

The Nurburgring time recorded by the 280bhp FWD Leon Cupra tends to disagree with your sarcasm... :)

Which has the LSD? :)

And you know for sure that this supposed R-VSR won't have it? And if you don't, why bring it up?

All applications of the >280 bhp 2.0 TSI engine so far have the LSD or AWD... I bet those VAG engineers are quite clueless at what they do, aren't they?

The VAG trick LSD provides most benefits within lower gears when powering out of corners. The standard VRS has an LSD, just not the same fancy pants one as the Golf GTI PP and Cupra. In a straight line and within higher gears it will make close to no difference whatsoever.

The standard 220PS TSI & Golf GTI (including 230PS PP version) will happily spin their front wheels within 2nd gear under hard acceleration on anything other than grippy road surfaces. It can thus be argued that 220PS is too much for FWD (I remember when 150PS was considered too much for FWD), but traction in low gears is only part of the story. 280PS will likely be fully usable within 3rd and above, but as with the 220-230PS cars you need to be gentle with the right foot in 1st & 2nd.

All the extra 60PS will provide is better pull once on the move within mid-high gears. 0-60 will show no big gains unless using track-grade tarmac..

Chill, there aren't many solid facts out on this new version, I was just making a comment based on Skoda historically not having access to the cool toys.

Your dam right there..the normal ones are the rare 1s as they cant seem to build them.

No I think what you ment was "they can't build them fast enough" but, as they're twice the car an Elegance is surely, the wait for one should be twice the length too !

Pity the tool that orders a 280PS its more than likely to a 2016 model, with a triangular steering wheel and 20" 20 profile tyres that'll make the low-feq boom issue Fn deafening still they'll have got the wheel arc gap below 100mm so at last, it'll look right.

Honest, I love the O3 just that the designers need steel toe-capped shoes to stop them being hurt so much everytime they shoot themselves in the foot.

..and the big Brembo brake upgrade and tyres that aren't available on the UK Cupra currently.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if this happened as it has been mentioned in two motorshow interviews ie the possibility of a higher powered limited run VRS. I'd strongly suggest it'd get the trick diff from the Golf PP also (it already has the same front brake setup!)

if it does go ahead I reckon it would be either sporting the 265 variant of the Cupra engine (and also no LSD), just to keep it distanced from the "Halo" models, or if we are lucky and they do go for the 280 variant, its pretty much a cert that we will be getting the LSD too.

To be fair I was as ****ed off with Skoda and their no-information slow build policy as the next man, but reading threads like this always makes me laugh from the other viewpoint

We have threads complaining that Skoda doesn't get the same performance parts as VW/seat, and we have threads complaining about the fact skodas are geting more expensive. That's great, don't get me wrong everyone wants a practical car with the performance of a Ferrari and the price of a punto, but its not going to happen its a about compromise and for me, the Octavia is a pretty good compromise.

I'm curious why seat are allowed tho

Surely the cupra R 280 sets the precedence. An Octy 280 vRS with awd or LSD would be the next logical step. Without it it would seem clear, Skoda are the **** pile in VAG.
