How long should you have to wait for a wheel. . .

Featured Replies

I have been quiet on this forum for a bit due to still waiting to collect my vRS which was damaged in transit.

It arrived at the dealers but one of the front wheels - the 19" Xtremes scuffed to hell in more than one place and a tyre damaged. This was three weeks ago tomorrow, I have chased the garage daily asking for an update. They got the tyre very quickly - a Pirelli Pzero, but the wheel is still not in sight.

I contacted another dealer who said they can get one in three days delivered. When I told my dealer this they told me that the one I selected was a different part number and therefore wouldn't match, would be a slightly different colour as it was from the accessories range as opposed to a factory order. I personally don't believe this is the case, surely there is one source of the wheels so therefore should match?

So at present my brand new Octavia vRS is sat locked in the showroom waiting for me to collect it, as I refused to take it unless it was perfect.

Frustrated doesn't even cover how I feel at present.

Your thoughts and comments please...

If they can get hold of a "slightly different colour" in three days, just say you will accept a full set of four of those and the current set you will take off their hands for cheap for winter tyres? :)

Surely a 19" Xtreme is a 19" Xtreme whether from the factory or accessories catalogue. One and the same.

The part number will be stamped on the back of the wheel, so you could always check.

Doesn't answer your question, but might be worth negotiating with the dealer to "buy" the damaged wheel for use as a full-sized spare. This might be more difficult than it first appears as they will inevitably be passing the claim back to VW/the transporter company. Worth asking though as it would match and maybe you could live without a refurb since most of its life would be "unseen".

But only if it will fit in the spare wheel well....?

which it will.  the full size road wheels do fit the hole

What have SUK had to say on the matter?

Was there any other damage you saw which could be holding it up? Suspension and the like.

In that case sounds like a good idea.

Surely, it's still at dealers by your choice. The sensible thing to have done, would have been to take the car with the agreement that the wheel gets replaced when in stock. In the meantime you'd have your VRS to use, albeit with one scratched wheel.

I think I would have done the same to be honest.

I was in same situation.... I had to wait 3 weeks for a wheel...

I hope when your say your at is "locked in the showroom" you mean is actually in a storage area. I'd rather drive it with a damaged wheel rather than have lots of would be customers crawling around my new car!

I waited several months. And still wait for a replacement for one with production error.
