Adjusting Headlights for European travel Octvia III Elegance

Featured Replies

I am aware that Xenon lights can be adjusted very simply from the info entertainment system. This is not available on a standard Elegance. Older models had a manual adjustment. The manual says that it has to be done at the garage. I insisted someone showed me the process but I have just had a Skoda technician look at the headlights and he cannot figure out how to do it. They are checking with Skoda but does anyone know how to do this? On top of the lights I have found a white nylon allen key hole with a screw slot at the bottom but not sure what this is.

Do not touch the white nylon Allen key holes - the headlight unit is mounted to the car in 2 or 3 places so that it fits flush to the bumper, bonnet, wings etc. These White Allen key holes that you refer to are then used to fine adjust the beam pattern left, right with one and up, down with the other. I've not seen the halogen headlights for an Octy 3 (your profile states Fabia) - the old Mk2 Octy had adjustment for both dipped and main beam, and a mechanical leaver for flat beaming, but the headlights were easily accessible, where as if you read other threads in this forum to gain access to bulbs in the Octy 3 front light cluster you need to take the bumper off - hence why the manual refers to dealer adjustment.

I will PM you some more info that may help too.

Actually you can change the bulb without taking the bumper off. There is a black cap on the back of the light but there does not appear to be any possible adjustment. Skoda technician could not find it either but he did confirm you can change the bulb.

Is it not the case that with the non-xenon lights you have to use the stick on converters on the outside of the headlights? I think I read it somewhere.

You can defiantly change the bulbs, I have put uprated dips in mine. I found it disappointing that the beams could not be flat-lined as in the MkII, just used the stick on converters from Halfords..

Are they easy to fit ? From using them in the past it was anybodys guess where they were supposed to fit. JUst traded in a Golf for the Octy and I had headlamp protectors on the that whcih came with stickers which wrre a doddle as there were markings on the protectors so you were sure they were fitted OK. I made a template out of card , bought a roll of vinyl and jobs a gud un. If only I could do something similar with the Octavia. I don't think skoda do their own stickers as Veedub do either ....

I had some with my Mondeo last year, was a case of just look directly at the headlight - head on - and use a supplied template that says , more or less, "Headlight bulb is here..., place sticker here...." mayeb 5 or 10 mins required to work out what it all means, but I did it while waiting for the ferry at Dover without any real problem.

Tip, if you stick them on at night whilst aiming the lights at a wall about 10 metres away it is fairly obvious where they need to go.
