Polished the chips out of the headlights

Featured Replies

Well after 116,000 motorway miles the headlights get rather peppered so a Polish was in order. Well I say polish!! Da sanded with 320 grit, then 400, 800, 1200, 3000 wet and dry and then polishing mop.

Struggling to get both photos on so will try and post other photo with a reply. Not too smart at this tech stuff lol.

A fare transformation me thinks.

Oh no will have to try and shrink the file size!! Will be worth the wait honest.

Brave to sand using DA. :)  I always do it by hand using a small block. :)

320 grit is not too aggressive so was fine. Will have the finished shot up very shortly. Took me and my lad about half an hour. Well impressed.

Really really really impressive ;)

Thought while I was at it I would sand the car lol.

Going in for a full paint to get rid of the 116,000 miles worth of stone chips.

Thanks for all the comments guy's.

No didn't,t t cut as wanted to sand most of the deep chip marks left by all the motorway miles.

They look fab I must admit. Really pleased with them.

Would you mind letti me know where you got the wet&dry paper, as I'm having difficulty finding the higher numbered paper locally.

How long would you say you spent doing each one?

Any bodyshop supplies outlet will sell you anything you require.

You won't get the extremelly fine grit apart from some wet and dry at Halfords unfortunately

Says in the fourth post ... Half an hour

Yep half an hour between me and the lad sorted it once off the car. I da sanded with 320 then a quick go over with 400, 800,1200,3000 then polishing machine with ultra glaze compound.

Will take much longer to polish up if you gave to apply the glaze compound by hand. The wet and dry was all done by hand though.

Cheers

3M do a kit specifically for headlamp polishing, comes with a small drill attachment and the correct grit sanding/polishing discs, came in very handy when I was cleaning up my fogged up xenons last Christmas,

Headlamps left on the car. Just masked off the paintwork around the lamp, 30 minutes to do the job

Wow looks great
