Mk1 vRS up in price?

Been looking around for perhaps another vRS, sold mine about a 18 months ago which was pretty good nick I'd say with lots of history (was not in the same condition when I saw it up for sale again recently :( )

 

But they all seem to have shot up in value!  Sold mine for £1,300 51 reg (ok so was 140k ish miles but immaculate)

Think you hit the nail on the head there when you said not in the same condition when I saw it for sale again.

 

imho £1,300 is probably still about on the money for age and mileage of your old one. However there are a lot being crashed/broken/written off recently which means the genuinely good ones will start going up in value as they become more attractive.

Dont forget theres the dreamers selling too. Sticking Y-plated cars up with 150000miles on the clock and asking £3000

Mines a 52 plate with 153k, if anyone wants to buy her I'll accept £4200 :)

To be honest I think mine was slightly underpriced back then, I'm doing it an injustice saying was 'pretty good nick' it could pass for 100k less miles on the clock than it had (although some 40k mile cars have been treated badly are can be dogs too!) it was spotless inside and out (I was second owner, it was a Company car previous so motorway miles~)

Given it's age, mileage and that it was due a cambelt (tyres and rear caliper) was happy (well unhapy as didn;t want to sell, OH persuaded me that wasn't worth spending the money on it) to get £1,300 which was fair given the belt needed doing etc (paid £2,800 in I think was 2007!)

 

Hindsight a wonderful thing I should've spent the circa £500-600 maintanence and kept it, if I saw one the same condition for £1,300 now I'd snap their arm off lol (regardless of miles as know well serviced high milers still reliable)

 

Above replies explain it, not that £2k is really a lot of money, just surprised me that the good ones are £2k plus

 

So long story short is the decent mk1's are more expensive than they used to be lol

I bought mine just before xmas was advertised at £2k full service history 85k miles toothed belt done, 1 owner, had a slight knock so had the garage sort both bottom arms. I got it for £1650 because it had abit of rust on each corner and boot plate recess. Interior is immaculate, 100% now and im happy that I got a bargain.

brought mine back in October. 53plate im the 4th owner 110000miles full service history including cambelt at 90k pouch full of receipts stage 1 mapped very clean body work. £1850

In theory the more tatty ones that get broken up, the rarity factor with the remainder will eventually push up prices due to lower supply (basic economics) but I think it will be some time before they become so rare you start to properly see inflated prices for that reason.

 

I have done my bit for the rarity increase, so you all can thank me later. :D

I bought my pretty mint Mk. 1 in 2009 with 80k on the clock, from a used car dealer no less, for £2,500.

 

With 140k on the clock, and still in nice condition, with a fabulous history - I reckon it's still worth at least £1,500....and on a good day, I reckon I might even scrape nearer two grand.

 

 

Interesting to see on the 'How Many Left' link that my '51 plate is one of only 500 left still going strong in the UK! Wow!

Mine is also in very good nick and still going strong.

I'm in the middle of a real dilemma with mine needs cambelt and pump and rear brakes doing approx £500 worth was thinking of changing I'm looking at newer cars with more miles in worse condition mines done 82k I'm second owner from new no mods I might keep it as its worth so little now and has run faultlessly for the past four years since I bought it.

If its running good its cheaper to keep it. I bought mine a couple of months ago. 1 owner from new fsh 142k on the clock 2003. Payed £1700. Maybe a little too much but I know its been pretty well looked after with so much history its unreal.

I got mine with 109k on the clock it's now at 153k without having any problems. Yours is still running in, I'd look after it and keep it. It'll probably outlast owt you buy to replace it

You may be right its an 04 plate bought with 58k four and a half yrs ago for four grand I went to buy another BMW and saw this at half the price of the 320 I went to view, one owner fdsh at Derek slack Skoda teesside some of the prev invoices are frightening so iI've kept FSH up at a local vag specialist I've ordered the brakes this afternoon discs ,pads and a rear caliper in mint green came to just over £100 cambelt will be done at vag specialist. If I decide to sell at least it will be right.

Wahey - good to hear! These are rare now, and I guess it's our duty to keep them going.

 

Mine still looks sharp in black - she's all straight and shiny, no rust or scabs at all. Amazing how well they've stood the test of time.

 

I was outside the other day, and a neighbour came over and started chatting about the car. He said 'it still looks good, doesn't it, for a 5 year-old car eh?'

 

He did a double take when I told him it was a 13 year-old car! (I have a private plate by the way...)

When you get your hands on a good solid reliable car try and keep it for as long as you can. These cars, in the age of modern diesels with as much power as the vrs with 60+ mpg and next to nothing road tax are stupid expensive to own now. But, I've read a few topics lately with people asking is it worth spending this money or replacing that part and right or wrong I've never ever looked at a cars value and wondered if I should spend this or that amount. For me personally, the vrs is worth what it would cost to replace it with something not the same because that's pointless. It would need to be better and I'm struggling! Better performance, better space, more comfort, as reliable, good drive. So, that rules out golfs etc due to size. Then your looking at mk2 octavias. But I've just looked at a silver one main dealer low miles, big boot, diesel so good economy nice drive. But, that car was nearly 7k! And then look at all the issues they've had. Dpf's going bad, injector problems. For the money I'll save on fuel other potential issues are causing me headaches. I jump in mine every morning and it never let's me down. I can go anywhere in that car and I'm gonna got there. So to me, my car is worth more than 7k!! If you get my messed up logic. My advice, go spend a bit of money, get the car the way it should be, and take comfort knowing you made the right choice all along!

Actually rarer than that. The first tab shows the number in total on the road at any given point regardless of age.

If you go to 'Years' and then 'First Reg', you get the total number of a particular vintage as at end of 2013. Net result? There are only 410 Mk1's from 2001 on the road plus another 44 on SORN...

Bought mine a month ago:

2005/05 Octavia vRS Mk1 Estate in red, 126,000 miles.

Paid £2200 as it has had cambelt, water pump, tensioner, clutch and DMF very recently, so I figure most of the expensive stuff has been done by someone else.

Lovely thing to drive - even the Mrs loves it.

Weird that it has a cruise control stalk but no cruise control though...
