Rear tyres bald after 13000 miles?

Featured Replies

Noticed that my rear tyres are on the legal limit and the car has only done 13000 miles, is this normal? The fronts seem perfectly fine though which is weird. The car had a 4 wheel alignment done 6 months ago when i got the car at just under 10000 miles.

What tyres do you recommend and where is the best place to order them from as i'll need them fully fitted?

Perhaps the front and rear tyres were switched prior to you purchasing the car? 13k purely in the rear seems excessive.

I agree it sounds like the tyres had been swapped over before you got the car.  Are the tyres even worn across the whole tread?   If they are tehn there's nothing to worry about, but if they're not maybe the alignment still isn't right.  Who did the four wheel alignment?  Was it a tyre fitting place or a specialist?  CLCM in SIghthill, Edinburgh have an excellent reputation if you need it doing again.

As for tyres, try getting some prices from blackcircles, tyretraders and the like.  There are fully fitted options from local garages, or you can just use the prices to haggle with.  West End Garage have always been pretty good on price.

Yup I would understand if all evenly worn with maybe the fronts even worse but to me that sounds like they've been swapped!

Yeah they seem worn evenly which is a good sign. How many miles roughly do the first tyres last for (front and rear).

It's more the side of the rear tyres which i'm concerend about. The outer bit of the tyres is almost worn away and the ends are all cracking.

I'm up to 55k on the original rears. Well probably more like 35 as I have winters.

Down to about 3mm now.

What was depths on the multi point check sales sheet?

Forgot to mention that Skoda had taken the car to CLCM for the 4 wheel alignment the day i picekd the car and i have the report from that.

I had a look and there is nothing about the tyre depths in all the paperwork.

Whoever you bought the car from probably switched the tyres to another car - either his own or a mate's or one where the buyer insisted on 2 new tyres.

Did you not check the state of the tyres when you bought it?  I would have thought that the 3,000 miles you have put on them wouldn't have made any noticeable difference unless you've been drifting round corners and havin' fun.

I got more than that even when they sawtoothed.

Agree with others they were probably swapped over

I got over 25000 on all my originals, and never had them swapped.

I suppose it depends on driving enthusiasm too, to some extent !!!

And type of use for the vehicle for instance my van goes down rough tracks all day hence why if I'm lucky I get 5k out of a set of tyres! Usually I pick up a puncture before that stage though :wall

My tyres have similar mileage. They've been on the car from new but still look virtually new i'd say those you have there have done a lot of miles!
