Octavia accelerated

Featured Replies

Some times my Octavia is accelerating by itself. Someone knows what can be happening?

Do you have cruise control fitted - I have noticed that you get that disconcerting feeling when you have cruise set but have accelerated to a faster speed. When you take your foot off to slow down the cruise will resume at the previously set speed so you don't slow as you think you should.

This also happened to my Octavia, this was when the car was standing still.

Think I found the reason was the cruise controll was in the ON position.

Turned it to OFF and it never have been a problem again .

My Octavia do not have cruise control and the acceleration produces in almost any time between 1800-3000 rpm.

Hmm, that sounds like a disturbing problem !

Maybe take the octy to a skoda workshop an see if the have any clues.

I have now the same problem....

First started with engine stopping with engine worm in idle without any alarms. After a 2 test the advice it was to change RPM sensor of the engine under the distribution. After changing this one no changes... same stuff ,engine it is stopping when it is in temperature.

I remove the battery for few minutes and after that the car it is accelerating 1000-3000 without pressing nothing, probably it is also stopping in idle ....

I plan to make a re-calibration .... any idea what it is going on?

Engine 1.6 mpi

I was changing the second RPM sensor located in the lower part of the engine and everything go back to normal.

I hope to stay like his :)

It may be worth checking the coolant temperature sensor.

I was thinking in terms of one of an engine speed sensor, the engine temperature sensor, or the throttle position sensor.

Coolant temperature sensor? Can't see how that would affect it.

Same engine on my mothers octy. Normally the coolant temp problems cause a problem when starting the car, but in some instances (like mine) it also caused the car to accelerate without any input from the driver. The problem was that the faulty coolant temp sensor was causing the car to over-fuel, and that resulted in acceleration when the car was in drive.

Sorry for my english. So, for my car changing the engine speed sensors ( 2 pcs ) solved the problem.

Thanks; I'd never seen this on a Octy, but I've seen it on other makes. The dud CTS supplies low temperature readings to the ECU, which then does cold enrichment on a hot engine...

Your English is entirely understandable. The only reason I even mentioned the CTS was that it's about the only other component that can affect the fuelling and hence engine speed.
