Electric boot sometimes doesn't work

Title pretty much says it all.

A few weeks ago, the boot lid opened remotely, but then on pressing the button to close it, it moved a few millimetres and then stopped, with a warning beep. It would close manually and open but still wouldn't close. A couple of days later it worked fine again. It coincided with our first warning light requesting more engine oil.

Skoda garage told me there is a 1 litre per 1000 miles tolerance, so having done nigh on 3000 miles, that was about right. Never known a car to need so much oil!

Anyway, after topping up with oil, the boot worked fine. Apparently, this is a coincidence, as the engine oil has nothing to do with the hydraulics of the boot. Fair enough.

But the boot has started playing up again. It appears to have coincided with the two spells of warm weather that we have had. Anyone had any experience of the boot having trouble closing? And do all cars of this model need so much oil?

The boot lid senses load on the motors and will stop moving and beep if it thinks it detects it hitting something.

 

Other things that can look like the boot striking something:

 - Getting in and out of the car while the boot is in motion, this can rock the car causing the boot lid to wobble which changes the load on the motors;

 - Gusts of winds blowing at the boot.  I was in a condition once with such gusty wind that I had to close it 90% of the way by hand before it would finish without stopping.

 

Otherwise, yeah, get a scan as some people have had the motors fail.

It's not hitting anything and we've tried multiple times so the car isn't rocking or being moved by the wind. It seems to happen more when the sun is out. So, I guess that seeing as we had summer on Saturday, I don't need to worry until next year ;-)

It's annoying, though. Skoda said they couldn't look for a fault unless there was a fault and at the time I took it in, it was working...

If there is a fault (Usually indicated by three very short tones) the fault should be logged in the Trunk Elect module.
