Disappointed with badges

Featured Replies

I have had my Superb since new (18th months ago) and must say I am disappointed with the quality of the badging.

All four centre wheel badges and the bonnet badge are showing signs of "decay" and look pretty grim. In all my years of motoring I have never had badges that have done this.

Poor quality in my opinion. Will have to speak to the dealer as the rest of the car looks like new.

Is this just my bad luck or is it a common issue? (although minor).

Wheel ones are OK, front seems OK but the rear on mine looks terrible. Has some "white" decay round the edge?

Got that issue on my Fabia, and one of the wheel center badges has just departed  too.

Thanks for reminding me to put on my 'must get it sorted' list.

Ford had this problem on the new style badges. They replace them FOC. You just walk in and say badges and they take a look and replace them. A few guys I work with have 2008 mondeos and so on and they go in quite regularly to get new ones.

I had a new Mazda 323 back in '82, and all the 'chrome' started peeling off the badges  after just 3 months.

As much as I'm not actually that fussed on the new badge design, it probably is more durable.

I have had front and rear badges replaced twice and the wheel caps once in two years. The wheel badges will need replacing again soon.

Five months old and centre wheel badges are already showing a lot of white around the edges and centre on one of them.  Also some bubbles appearing so will get replaced at first service in a couple of weeks.  Front and rear are fine as the FL badge design is more tactile

A common problem across the Skoda range, just search for 'white worm'.

Most dealers will replace FOC under warranty. The problem is it always returns.

I understand the latest style of Skoda badges (black and chrome) are not affected.

The early stages of white worm creeping in through the chrome rim...

The new badges can be had to fit the pre-FL Superb...

silver 1011,

are the new black and white badges a straight swap? I can see that the bonnet one has tabs on it and wonder if the new one clips on the same.

I expect the wheel ones are not an issue.

No known way of preventing 'white worm' then I suppose?

Really don't want to replace the original badges on my Fabia with the new style ones.

Skoda still sell the old ones iirc if you make sure you say which one!

I just notice my rear badge (19 month old car) is showing the marks around the edge - service due in a few weeks so.......

Yea, but is there something we can do to prevent 'white worm'?  :wonder:

I wonder if a few heavy coats of a high quality wax or sealant would help! I will ask on detailing world

The front and rear badges are the same profile on the Superb so you need:

2x part number: 1ST 853 630 A AUL

You will need to snap off one of the tabs but this is explained and illustrated in the above thread.

From Dw : Dealers will change them under warranty, if the car is under three years old.

If you are fitting them, it may be worth trying to seal the edge between the inner and outer layers, as my guess is that it is moisture ingress causing the "White Worm".

My rear badge is showing signs after seven months.

Sadly only with the same as that is what Skoda UK will allow.

this sounds frustrating but my 2yr old E Class has ALL the chrome trim strips showing horrendous pitting and marking that wont clean off, the finish on the AMG front alloys failed terribly and the wheels had to be replaced and more than 1 bit of trim has fallen off....

I agree the quality of the badges is terrible. My car is less than three years old, and already has its third set of badges, and also these are showing white worms again  . I may even change to the new style badges, if they proof to be of better quality (we will only know that in a few years).

Just been to Keiths in Huddersfield

My tailgate and wheel badges have the white rust !

First question "what do you wash your wheels with ?" - me being me, I answered with "water" !

I use Billberry cleaner

The will order a set - I can't upgrade to the new badges - even if I contribute

So will stick with the originals and go mental if/when the new badges have the white worm.

Anyone know the cost of the new badges ?

Chris

I have had two Surperb's an 60 plate and an 11 plate both of theses had the front and rear badges change by the dealer. (both rear badges looked like the was corrosion behind the plastic)

I didn't ask they just replaced them while the cars were in for servicing as it was a known problem, I assume the reclaimed their time under warranty as I never received a bill.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took my Superb in to the dealer last week to get an unrelated problem sorted out and he told me there was a mysterious "outstanding upgrade" due on the vehicle.  When I went back it turned out the "upgrade" was replacing the badges because there's a known problem with them.

When I asked my local service centre about this, as my badges are effected, they said the service note only applied to some 'S' spec cars. I have an '09 SE spec. I really doubt they sourced the badges on the base model differently from the others. I bought the car as an approved used Skoda, so have a year's warranty (already had a radiator leak fixed under this).
