How do I get an owner's service manual for my new Octavia? When does it need the first service?

Featured Replies

I just got the new Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.8 L, 4X4.

There is only a user manual, but no service manual. Shouldn't I have got that with the new car?

Where can I get the Service booklet? When should I have my first service?

If it's brand new then as of (about) the start of the year service books were discontinued in the UK, so would assume it was a roll out across all countries. Everything that is done on the car is loaded on to a national system.

Service would be 10,000 KM or 1 year whichever comes soonest

If it's on fixed service intervals it will be 15000km or 12 months and the car will let you know. If it's on variable it will be "whenever the car tells you to".

In the UK, it's usually referred to as 10000 miles, but I believe that it still comes at the metric interval.

Thanks guys. I am in Switzerland. Perhaps the "No service manual" has gone global.

However, it still begs the question: How does a buyer verify that all required services were done, if in fact there is no service manual?

You can ask any Skoda dealer and they will be able to do a print out of all service work that has been done.

Of course, that won't happen if you go elsewhere, so it has the benefit for Skoda of trying to keep you using them for service work.

Which considering they are usually more expensive than even the best independants, Extremely poor.

Of course, no matter where you go (if they are reputable), they would always give you a print out of what they have done, usually as part of the receipt, so just keep a copy of this, and bundle it in with all the others. Keep them together in the glovebox, and theres your own service manual.

Trouble is if you have the free servicing deal you don't even get the invoice as all paperwork goes to SUK, luckily mine had a service book

Id be telling them to give me a copy of the paperwork for my own records.

Check with them beforehand, and if they claim they cant do that, leave, and head to another dealer. One of them will do so.

Had a service last week, I have the free service deal and still got paperwork invoice.

Good. Should put everybodies mind at ease, especially those that dont have the service manual.

Hmmmm.... My dealer kept mine and said it has to go SUK's accounts dept.  Doesn't really matter anyway as I have a service book.

If i never had a service book, id demand a copy, even if it was minus any prices. Theres absolutely no reason why they cant do this.

Mine came with a service schedule/record that the dealer has stamped at each service, had two services so far, but there is no list of what service work should be done, like there was with my previous Skodas, so it does not advise when for example the cam belt should be changed so I asked the dealer, who advised 80,000 miles or 4 years which ever comes first, but in SWMBO's service book for her 2009 Octy IIFL, it covers all engine types and a TDI CR cam belt change is not due until 120,000 miles with no time limit advised, fortunately, her 1.8TSI is chain driven so no belt change required! I plan to keep my Octy III for about 4 years, and will probably do 90,000 miles so just need to decide if I go with the dealers advice or risk not changing the belt if chopping it in when planned.

Neil, if you ever intend selling the car privately (which I don't think you do?), the invoices to back up the stamps in a service book are worth their weight in gold.

When I worked at a Vauxhall dealership it is amazing how many official dealer stamps used to go missing from the Service Department. Not saying it was people in the dealers, but they get left on front counters etc. and go missing. One of the traders who used to buy the 4 year+ trade ins used to somehow end up with full dealer service history on every car on his lot .........................

I thought the new generation of CR engines were 120K for cam belts, but I might just be imagining that!

I have always received a copy of the invoice detailing the work even though it is invoiced to SUK under the service plan agreement, these are worth more than a dealer stamp.
