Anybody know the cost of a new anthracite Gemini from Skoda or if it's possible to get them refurbed? Sure I read on here that they're diamond cut...

Great, was hoping I wouldn't have to replace it haha, will try my local chips away.

Cheers

Depends how bad the damage is.  If it's a light scrape then by all means get a refurb done.  If it's got big chunks out of it or the rim is well out of true, then be very careful that the refurbisher is qualified to weld the alloy and that it's X-Rayed to check there are no invisible cracks.

Why risk your life for £260!

Filling a couple of scrapes with weld does not need testing. It will never be dangerous either

Minor damage - a good refurbisher will fix that

Looks like my front drivers wheel. Did it the same day I picked the car up

Cheers guys will ring around on Tuesday

Try and find a specialist wheel company or a bodyshop - the prices will be slightly higher than a ChipsAway type franchise, but you are likely to get a longer lasting repair done. Nothing wrong with ChipsAway type repairs, but a bodyshop with all the gear and an oven etc. that completely remove the tyre, blast the wheel etc. is bound to give a better repair in the long run.

How do they repair a machined wheel like this? Surely it needs the metal building back up with weld and then machining to put the "diamond cut" finish back in?

Unfortunately if they are diamond cut you will never get the colours to match the other wheels. You will end up needing all 4 done. Chips away places don't repair diamond cut. In fact if they are diamond you will need a specialist place I'm afraid.

Don't know if these guys can help...  http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk/   They do a collect and return service...might be of help.

Drive past them most days... never had to use them though...yet!

I hear pristine have a good reputation although they are not cheap. They want £95 a wheel to do my wife's 15" BBS basket weaves and caps. Suppose with the work that goes into a wheel its not bad. I also drive past them every day going to work :-)

I'll have to keep my eyes open... :hi:

Feeling your pain! Clipped the edge of a pot hole yesterday. Whilst damage to rim is not so bad, the tyre has been damaged too and will probably need replacing - a pain when it probably only has 1000 miles of wear. Winters back on while I try to get it in for repair.

I can only speak from experience. A  mate of mine dinked an alloy on his Scooby a few years ago (standard 17 incher - it was caused mounting a kerb and was only about a 5mm distortion of the outer rim and looked repairable). A few months later he drove over a pothole and the wheel shattered into 3 pieces forcing him into a granite wall at about 30 MPH. Luckily no one was hurt but the car was a mess, to say the least!

This doesn't look too bad.  Just cosmetic.  Try Lepsons. They've done cosmetic repairs for me in the past and were very good value for money

Lepsons have an excellent reputation

Cheers for all the replies.

There's a place called A1 alloys near to me so I'll try them first, if not then I think short term I'll use chips away and then replace the alloy further down the line.

The guy at the top of the thread seemed happy with his refurb from chips away.

Cheers all

Ouch. I feel your pain. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Anyone tried the diy wheel repair kits for minor curbing? I have been tempted to try one as i have a curbed front

IMHO not worth the effort.

I've repaired some on my own by rubbing down and using high build primer before paint and lacquer, not too bad if you have a good colour match for a silver wheel.

I wouldn't attempt a dark wheel with a diamond cut though, best left to a pro.
