Excessive front tyre wear...

Featured Replies

Thank you :) nope no transport blocks, they have definitely been removed... what PSI are you guys running your tyres at? (front and back) mine are 45PSI, so perhaps they are a little on the hard side...

That is too high, if the car was supplied like this you need to be having a word with the dealer. 32 or 34 psi is about right, but check your filler flap where they will be listed in BAR.

There's your problem.

Pretty sure it's only 34psi front and 42psi for rears for fully loaded use (5 people + luggage) so 45psi is definitely too high.

would have saved everyone alot of time if the OP had told he was running stupid tyre pressure in his first post. :notme:

Indeed, 7000 miles is a long time to go without checking tyre pressures. But hey we all make mistakes!

While you're adjusting your tyre pressures to a more sensible configuration I would also check your oil and other fluids. Should really be doing these things at least every tankful or two.

Yep, 7k miles at 45 psi will have caused that central section's extra wear, but set the pressure right and you'll get a few more k yet. Extra grip and comfort too.  Front wheels should always wear a little on the edges due to the camber and the steering they do, rears normally wear pretty flat. Wear in the central section is usually a clear sign off over inflation. Sorry iI didn't spot it earlier.... I was more interested in the discussion about tyre makes as I was about to order a pair, so hadn't taken much notice of your photos.

And to the guys telling OP To check his car more, while I agree, he had noticed something wrong with his tyres and come here to ask, so he isn't a total Muppet  :notme: ... nearly but not total!   we all could have been faster at asking about tyre presures rather than going a bit off topic.....me included!

only being 18, i certainly need to get used to checking my car more often! having said this, ive gone out and had a poke under the bonnet, my engine coolant is below the min level, so that needs topping up once the engine is cool!

Just like to say massive thanks for all the help/advice you guys have given me throughout, really really useful :) pretty sure  i have a bit of life left in these tyres yet, and i certainly know which ones il be swapping them for after! the tyre make discussion has been well worth it anyway!

cheers guys,

Jack
