Alex's Fabia 1.9tdi Cat C repair

Featured Replies

Some of you may know that I recently wrote my car off on the way to meeting some members for Edition 38, Stupidly was looking at a crashed car on the side of the road not paying attention and the car infront braked and I went into the back:(

Finally got my car back from the insurance, with a lot more scratches then it went to them with.. and am hoping to repair it.

today I started stripping down all the damaged parts to see what damage has been done underneath and if it's repairable, the chassis leg is slightly bent at the end where the slam panel connects and am not sure if this will be able to be put right with a jig? would appreciate any advice :)

To be honest, if it was me I'd be looking for another Comfort 1.9tdi in black and moving all your mods over to the new car, then sell all the parts I could off the wrecked car before scrapping it.

Even if you fix it up real nice, it will always be a cat C write off which will kill it's value when you come to sell it.....although it might be hard to contemplate, I think doing the above will save you a good bit of money in the long run.

You could get a clip from a scrappy and weld it in.

ask a metalwork firm, they will deal with this stuff day in and out and will know the flexability and rework potential of the panel (theoretically)

This.

If you need to ask us what to do then you probably shouldn't be trying to do it yourself.

It's not a particularly difficult repair BUT... I would expect the quote to be in the £400 region.

Which is probably what the car is worth as a Cat C.

My green 1.4 16v Comfort on a Y plate was £300 to buy with minor rear damage that didn't even need fixing.

I'd suggest getting another car similar to this, changing all your bits over and having a whole car (less the front end) as spares to use/sell.

Cheers for everyone's advice, I am not worried about it not being worth much as a car if I do repair as will most probably be passed down the family when my brother starts driving.

I have spoke to a local crash repair center and have sent him all the pictures I have for him to have a look at and he's going to get back to me and advice me what to do or a quote for the work doing :)
