Mud, over a ton of caravan, wet grass... no problem

Featured Replies

No problem!

That'll do nicely.

Although as someone who does the groundwork on his parents caravan site, I've got to say.... Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease lock your diffs! :)

We get so many 4x4's pulling out with ease, but leaving a trench behind one rear wheel.

Alas with Haldex you can't lock the diffs and the power ONLY goes to the back in huge amounts once there is slippage - hence you have to give it some welly to get all four wheels going. And the bit where I was spinning was where the other cars had gone through to get to the (now empty) parking in the distance on the edge of the field.

How the heck do you lock the diffs on any haldex based vehicle? Good job johann btw :)

Good to see that even with a ton of ballast at the back it coped no problem.

It has always surprised me that there are no settings on VAGs, considering its can all be done in software easily. You can get after market kits that give you a lock button, but that's still only for the Haldex coupling.

Does the offroad button on the Yeti not do it?

No it doesn't, but the ABS system does a similar thing automatically.

Good driver, took the power off once moving....

There is a setting for the Yeti in VCDS

XDS Activation (electronic differential lock – fast corner assist)
ABS Brakes – 03
Coding - 07Long coding helper
Byte 17 - Bit 3 APPENDIX 1 Untested Codes

Not sure what that actual reffers to or how it would be implemented

Not particularly pertinent to this thread.

but

I continue to be astounded at how good the traction control is on the Octavia.

In respect of climbing a relatively steep grassy slope, at low speed, with cut on too.

Both wheels simply grip.

With 4wd should it should be astounding

The rain on the way back sorted SOME of that mud Iain, don't fret!

Careful not too much water on the good old Lunar.

Oh this "Leaky Lunar" is my first caravan and has zero damp thankfully. It's been well sealed up over the years (again and again I suspect!) It's been jet washed a few times too and all is fine. If it can come out of this past weekend in Wales dry, little water will ever make it inside from a sponge and some soapy water.

EPIC video Johann, thanks for sharing

Should have come to Mid Wales, we had a lovely weekend, (after it stopped raining on Saturday)

There is a bigger haldex due out later this year. Unsure if it will have a locking diff though

Well done Johann, great video and glad you got out and home safely.

Hope your friends enjoyed the British weather ;)

PS. Dog guard all fitted and doing its job thanks.

That looks more like wet grass to me...
