Email sign in attempts from Taiwan?

Featured Replies

I had a notification last week that GMail had stopped a suspicious sign in, located in Taiwan. I logged into my email and changed the password. Just now I got another, I've logged in and changes it again but should I be worried someone can somehow be getting my info?  :notme:

I'll be honest I'm not hugely clued up on this kinda stuff

Cheers

Matt

Might well be just guessing email addresses / passwords.

Back about 7 or 8 years ago I used to support a computer forums a bit like briskoda but for PC builders / Overclockers (not as many members though) and on the servers we were constantly seeing people trying to connect from various places around the world with standard usernames/passwords.

I would suggest you turn on 2 factor auth asap.

Cool, I've changed it to a right ****ty one that no ****er will guess. I'll have to get my admin bod onto the 2 step authentication, it wont let me do it until they allow it in the setup.

Thanks!

I would check to make sure the gmail notification system hasnt been messed with. Look for instructions to forward password changes to an email address that isnt yours; and if you find them - DELETE THEM.

Might be worth changing your security questions and answers aswel Matt.

Just remember matt each device (android etc), drive and chrome, will need a static password to be set when using 2 step verification. You can set a password for each of these which can be revoked at anytime. I'd also click the option to log every existing connected app out/revoke access.

I assume you have access to your account to set this?

Are you sure it was a genuine email, rather than a phishing email? I take it you went direct to the site and didn't click on a link in the email. If you are unsure, go direct to the site and change the password again.
